About the Role & Team
As the Animal Health Lab Technician, you will provide clinical diagnostic laboratory services to the animal populations at Disney and work to ensure the highest quality of laboratory support. Your technical support will include Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, Seas with Nemo & Friends, and TriCircle D Ranch. Daily operation will include partnership with others in the Animal Health (veterinary technician, veterinarian, medical records, pathology, and keeper teams) and Animal Care teams in Animals, Science and Environment (ASE). We are a busy, high energy, team-oriented practice.
This position is a part-time position reporting directly to the Veterinary Practice Manager.

- Support and demonstrate commitment to Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment’s Mission and Vision
- Perform, maintain, and troubleshoot clinical laboratory operations, including sample analysis of mammalian, reptilian, amphibian, avian, teleost, and elasmobranch species.
- Advance the scope of practice and implementation of new in-house techniques by working with the Veterinary Practice Manager to continuously improve and optimize testing, training, safety, and quality
- Establish and systematize documentation for all in-house and reference lab testing, as well as Biobank sample storage and archive by using computerized medical records keeping system
- Ensure the laboratory is “show ready” and participate in educational presentations to our guests on a regular basis.
- Participate in team projects and actively participate in accomplishing goals set by the Animal Health leadership team and the Veterinary Practice Managers
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum three years of relevant work experience in laboratory diagnostics
- General knowledge of clinical laboratory operations, Universal Precautions, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Proficiency in clinical laboratory procedures that include, but are not limited to blood chemistry, cytology, high volume parasitology (direct, flotation, and McMasters testing), urinalysis, Biobank archiving, and hematology.
- Solid understanding of laboratory instrumentation including basic operation, performing QC and quality assurance programs, equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and supply inventory of automated and POC analyzers
- Ability to work independently, as well as work in partnership with teams in day-to-day operation for support of sample management, requests, and research
- Possess strong organizational skills and careful attention to detail with the ability to communicate effectively in written, e-mail, and oral formats, prioritize workloads, and demonstrate superb time management skills
- Expertise/proficiency in technology/software such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel; SharePoint, Workday, and ZIMS; Zoom and Teams
- Provide an average of three full days of availability each week
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum two years of aquatic and/or zoological facility experience
- Proficiency in clinical laboratory procedures involving samples from reptilian, amphibian, avian, teleost, and elasmobranch species.
Education
- Certified, Registered, or Licensed Veterinary Technician or Certified Medical Laboratory Technician in at least one state with the ability to become certified in Florida within 1 year
