Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Automation and Packaging Engineer will drive innovation at the intersection of packaging systems and automation technology, focusing on optimizing packaging processes through automated solutions while ensuring product integrity and sustainability. This role combines expertise in packaging engineering with automation systems to create efficient, scalable packaging operations. Knowledge of PLC programming and ladder logic is essential for implementing automated control systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership in capital projects and new product packaging material testing
- Collaborate with outside project management groups, marketing teams, and high level stakeholders to understand needs and deliver packaging products as necessary
- Design and implement automated packaging solutions to optimize production efficiency
- Lead capital improvement projects related to packaging systems and automation
- Work collaboratively with the procurement and quality groups to ensure timely delivery and quality on packaging projects
- Analyze and optimize existing packaging processes using automation technologies
- Create technical documentation for packaging specifications and operational procedures
- Deliver new ideas to reduce overall packaging spend or environmental impact while achieving appropriate packaging validation to carry out these improvements
- Develop and maintain PLC programs for packaging automation systems
- Troubleshoot and debug PLC programs and automated equipment
- Utilize CAD software to design packaging solutions and create technical drawings
- Preferred programs - Solidworks, ArtiosCAD, Draftsight, and Adobe Illustrator
- Perform structural analysis of packaging designs using industry-standard software
- Conduct cost-benefit analyses for proposed packaging improvements
- Execute ISTA testing procedures and generate comprehensive lab reports
- Develop and optimize palletization patterns for efficient shipping and storage
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Packaging, or Mechanical Engineering
- This position is ideal for an entry-level engineer whom we can mentor and develop through hands-on experience in the role; the selected candidate will have opportunities for professional growth and skill development

Skills and Qualifications:
- Ability to interpret data and perform highly detailed cost analysis
- Ability to troubleshoot and debug PLC programs and automated equipment
- Strong English verbal and written skills
- Strong background in MS Office and/or Google Suite
- Experience with PLC platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or Omron
Compensation: $75,000.00/Year - $103,400.00/Year

The base pay range shown is a guideline. Individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, and competencies; compensation is based on the role's location and is subject to change based on work location.
