Job Description:

As a Quality Application Engineer, you'll be a key part of our agile delivery teams- from helping refine and test requirements, to building automated regression test suites. You'll ultimately help ensure your team continually delivers quality applications into production at Discover. Actively manages and escalates risk and customer-impacting issues within the day-to-day role to management.

Do you love to test and break things? Are you passionate about software quality? Can you deliver both application code and well as test code? If so then this could be the perfect fit. Working within an agile scrum team you will deliver software solutions from inception to production covering the whole SDLC ensuring they are bug free. This role is very strategic in the growth and technical advancement of the Digital Payments platform at Discover. The software you help build and test will be consumed directly by Discover card holders at speed and scale. You will be working on mission critical payment systems.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, design, program, test, and deploy new user stories and features with high quality (security, reliability, operations) to production
  • Tends to Associate Application Engineers by providing learning tasks as well as work related tasks, directs the work of Senior Associate Application Engineers, and helps them continue to grow
  • Achieves team commitments (and influence others to do the same) by using informal leadership & highly developed communication skills
  • Has an oversight on design decisions and guides team to achieve key results for products assigned to them
  • Remediates issues using engineering principles and creates proactive design solutions for potential failures
  • Contributes to and leads technology communities at Discover

Minimum Qualifications

At a minimum, here's what we need from you:

  • Bachelors - Computer Science or related
  • Information Technology, (Software) Engineering, or related
  • Internal applicants only: technical proficiency rating of competent on the Dreyfus engineering scale
  • Experience testing with Cucumber, Junit and mocking fromeworks.
  • Experience writing application code working as a SDET
  • Testing and developing microservices with SpringBoot and API testing

Preferred Qualifications

Bonus Points If You Have:

  • Nonfunctional testing experience
  • Test first mindset
  • Experience of digital payments
  • Experience working with code quality tools
  • Confident in ensuring all code works well, is fully tested and meets requirements
  • Working alongside team members to ensure all test scenarios are fully accounted for and considered.
  • Experience in setting best practice, standards and guidelines.

  • AWS
