As part of the Collections Value Stream within Discover, you will work as Application Engineer ETL (Ab Initio) on an Agile Team with our business partners to build and maintain consumer focused systems within our Company. Within our Digital platform, we help deliver the Collections experience to the Discover website and the software utilized by our call service agents. We are building out our capabilities around our next generation Container & Serverless management platform by leveraging OpenShift from Kubernetes. Discover is seeking an experienced ETL Application Engineer to join our Recovery Systems agile teams. A successful candidate will work hand in hand with business partners to understand their needs and processes and build solutions using cutting edge technologies while driving automation and process improvements along the way. You will consult with engineering peers on the design and development of highly complex and critical projects. You will also collaborate on coding standards and documentation to ensure they are organized and maintained.

Projects will include designing and developing data integration and transformation processes leveraging SQL, Ab Initio, JBoss and Java. Engineers design, develop and integrate systems for Discover's recovery processes by using agile development methodologies that support existing and new product features. This position will be supporting the recovery business and applications, including Debt Manager.

Responsible for oversight on design and implementation of products assigned to their team. Still needs to think things through but has their driver's license. This means they can take user stories and new features from idea to production unattended. Actively manages and escalates risk and customer-impacting issues within the day-to-day role to management.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, design, program, test, and deploy new user stories and features with high quality (security, reliability, operations) to production
  • Tends to Associate Application Engineers by providing learning tasks as well as work related tasks, directs the work of Senior Associate Application Engineers, and helps them continue to grow
  • Achieves team commitments (and influence others to do the same) by using informal leadership & highly developed communication skills
  • Has an oversight on design decisions and guides team to achieve key results for products assigned to them
  • Remediates issues using engineering principles and creates proactive design solutions for potential failures
  • Contributes to and leads technology communities at Discover
  • Provide rotational support for product family applications

Minimum Qualifications

At a minimum, here's what we need from you:

  • Bachelors - Computer Science or related
  • 3+ Years - Information Technology, (Software) Engineering, or related
  • Internal applicants only: technical proficiency rating of competent on the Dreyfus engineering scale

Preferred Qualifications

Bonus Points If You Have:

  • Experience with ETL tools
  • Ab Initio ETL experience
  • Ability to design and develop Abinitio ETL graphs based on use case.
  • Experience with relational databases such as SQL Server and ability to optimize complicated SQL
  • Agile/Lean/SAFe methodology experience
  • Financial/collections industry experience
  • Experience with cloud/AWS based solutions such as RDS, Lambda, Snowflake, Redshift or S3
  • Desire to learn through training and self-discovery on a variety of emerging technologies

Compensation:
The base pay for this position generally ranges between $86,500.00 to $146,100.00. Additional incentives may be provided as part of a market competitive total compensation package. Factors, such as but not limited to, geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may impact the pay for this position.
