We’re looking for a Director of Engineering to lead the migrations track within our Forward Engineering team. In this role, you’ll own the technical strategy, roadmap, and execution for making migrations to DigitalOcean smooth, scalable, and customer-friendly. Your work will help teams of all sizes—from startups to growing businesses—move onto our platform with confidence.

You’ll collaborate closely with product, support, and customer success teams to understand migration pain points and build solutions that reduce friction and increase adoption. You’ll also play a key role in building and mentoring a high-performing engineering team that values simplicity, ownership, and impact.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Lead the development of tools and systems that help customers seamlessly migrate to DigitalOcean’s cloud platform.
  • Define the engineering roadmap for the migration experience, balancing short-term needs with long-term platform goals.
  • Partner cross-functionally with support, customer success, and product teams to understand customer challenges and prioritize the right solutions.
  • Own team health and delivery—creating clarity around goals, fostering psychological safety, and setting high technical standards.
  • Establish and track success metrics to ensure engineering efforts are delivering measurable customer and business value.
  • Champion operational excellence, scalable architecture, and a developer-first mindset.

What We'll Expect From You:

  • 12+ years of software engineering experience. 5+ years in engineering leadership roles.
  • A proven track record of delivering complex backend or infrastructure products, ideally related to migrations or cloud services.
  • Strong technical background in distributed systems, cloud platforms, and systems design.
  • Ability to balance engineering trade-offs with customer and business impact.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, low-ego leadership style.
  • Experience building and growing high-performing, diverse engineering teams.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.

Why You’ll Like Working for DigitalOcean:

  • We innovate with purpose. You’ll be a part of a cutting-edge technology company with an upward trajectory, who are proud to simplify cloud and AI so builders can spend more time creating software that changes the world. As a member of the team, you will be a Shark who thinks big, bold, and scrappy, like an owner with a bias for action and a powerful sense of responsibility for customers, products, employees, and decisions.
  • We prioritize career development. At DO, you’ll do the best work of your career. You will work with some of the smartest and most interesting people in the industry. We are a high-performance organization that will always challenge you to think big. Our organizational development team will provide you with resources to ensure you keep growing. We provide employees with reimbursement for relevant conferences, training, and education. Regardless of your location, we will provide you with a competitive array of benefits to support you from our Employee Assistance Program to Local Employee Meetups to flexible time off policy, to name a few. While the philosophy around our benefits is the same worldwide, specific benefits may vary based on local regulations and preferences.
  • We reward our employees. The salary range for this position is $192,000 - $288,000 based on market data, relevant years of experience, and skills. You may qualify for a bonus in addition to base salary; bonus amounts are determined based on company and individual performance.
