About the Role

You'll act as a critical link between our global engineering and brand technical teams, supporting innovations across Scotch, Beer, Tequila, Gin, Vodka, Rum, and Baileys. Your role will be to ensure every packaging change - whether for innovation, renovation, sustainability or margin enhancement - is:

  • Technically feasible


  • Operationally scalable


  • Commercially viable


  • Aligned with our strategic goals


You'll assess technical feasibility, support return on investment evaluations, and advise on how to optimise packaging from both a brand and production standpoint. This is a global role with a local hub, requiring collaboration across multiple geographies and teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate packaging design proposals with a focus on operational performance, cost, and sustainability


  • Work closely with Category Project Managers to assess feasibility and risk


  • Influence and support brand change decisions through your technical expertise


  • Partner with Third-Party Operations to validate and support remote production


  • Ensure excellence in safety, governance, and stakeholder management


  • Drive simplification, margin enhancement and material optimisation


  • Contribute to the delivery of our Society 2030: Spirit of Progress goals


About You

This isn't a traditional functional engineer role - it's a brand-savvy, strategically-aligned transformation position. You'll need to bring both technical depth and business acumen to help craft packaging changes that unlock brand value. We're open-minded on your exact background - what matters most is your ability to think critically, work collaboratively, and lead technically.

To be successful in this role, you must have;

  • Packaging, Mechanical Engineering or related technical background or equivalent experience


  • Significant experience in FMCG, manufacturing or packaging industries with strong grasp of packaging materials, processes, line design and scale-up


  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills


  • A strategic mindset, with the ability to balance technical rigour and commercial goals


  • Ability to travel independently


Nice to Have:

  • IO3, IOM3, IBD (Packaging Module) or similar certifications


  • NEBOSH or similar health & safety qualification


  • Experience with global or multi-site technical projects


  • Familiarity with governance and capex processes


  • Project management experience
