  • To lead the development and execution of the strategies for NA Raw Materials, Rum, Energy, Whiskey, Barrels, Commodities & Bulk sales
  • Lead Balance Sheet Procurement (contract distillation, warehousing, barrels, grains, yeast, energy) and sales responsibility (bulk sales, byproduct sales, barrel sales) supporting Diageo North America distillation and maturing strategy totaling approximately $225M annually. Role is both tactical and strategic encompassing end to end supply chain management.
  • To lead the negotiation of contractual arrangements with suppliers in these categories to ensure they reflect the needs of the business and meet corporate standards and financially deliver against our value commitments


Complexity of Role:
  • Member of the NA Procurement Supply leadership team and NA Supply Maturing Stock Team
  • Links with NA and Global Procurement leaders to bring knowledge as well as search and spin opportunities
  • Strong working relationships with the commercial aspects of the business as well as leaders in Network Supply, Finance, Technical operations, Conversion and Procurement team
  • Required to be the functional authority on the group of category areas for Diageo and present opportunities to the organization on a strategic level
  • Capability to interact/negotiate multi- year strategic contracts across categories under remit.
  • Ensure constant alignment with Corporate Relations on External Communications
  • Anticipates and monitors together with CE counterparts global economic conditions and their impact on Diageo relevant industries to ensure that we can proactively lead both positive and negative ramifications on our business; e.g. corn fundamentals, consumer preference shifts in alcohol, etc.
  • Ability to coach and train on specific financial analysis, business law, technical and regulatory as it impacts specific category and commodity strategies and spend as well as train on Global Procurement tools on Category Management
  • Analyzes markets, suppliers, and industries at the strategic levels to develop vision and coach personnel
  • Oversees the key communication and all associated projects/initiatives/savings
  • Provides market intelligence of potential trends back to the Demand Team.


Key Outputs:
  • Strategic and Tactical responsibility for annual byproduct and bulk sales.
  • Accountable to set strategic marketing, sales and procurement direction for relevant spend/sale area.
  • Accountable for developing and implementing standards in the selection process for all new suppliers and customers
  • Responsible to ensure that all contracts are structured to meet Diageo standards for financial delivery, required service levels and quality standards
  • Responsible for delivering NA Supply Financial P/L and B/S commitments via implemented sales and purchase strategy

Strategic responsibility for $80M+ in New Barrel Procurement Tactical and strategic responsibility for annual Bulk Sales task as assigned
  • Lead, coordinate and align Bulk Sales Team and process (Planning, Blending, Finance and NAM maturing sites)

Tactical and strategic responsibility for Byproduct Sales (approximately $10M)
  • Negotiation of distillery byproduct (DDG and stillage) sales and contracts from six Diageo NAM sites
  • Cross-functional coordination of annual new barrel delivery schedules between nine


Leadership Accountabilities:
  • The Raw Materials, Whiskey& Barrels Director will be an inspirational leader who will help define the strategy that will drive breakthrough performance for Diageo North America Supply
  • The leader needs to energize within Diageo, within the Supply organization and in partnership with our Demand colleagues (Innovation, Brand, and Business Unit Leads).
  • The Raw Materials, Whiskey& Barrels Director will need to excel in giving clear concise presentations based on complex data analysis to facilitate and influence Senior Partner decisions.
  • Have the ability to combine creativity with a strong supply and financially savvy to deliver breakthrough plans.
  • Strategic judgement and analytical rigor, with the ability to translate strategy into action.
  • Commercialization and project management experience to ensure recommended supply plans are efficiently implemented.
  • Maintain a strong internal control and compliance environment consistent with the Diageo compliance policies.
  • Ability to influence, inspire and impact across a matrix organization - creating outstanding teamwork and alignment.
  • Energize and inspire others to deliver outstanding results.


Financial & Management Responsibility
  • Accountable for overseeing the forecasting and standard setting during the annual budget process
  • Accountable for overseeing a total spend of over $350M
  • Accountable in coordination with Global CPRM for the formulation and execution of price risk management strategies for corn, natural gas and other NA commodity exposures
  • Accountable for contributing to company's overall economic profit by leading the development and execution of savings projects for relevant categories
  • Responsible for the development and management of a team of four direct reports


Qualifications and Experience Required:
  • 8-10+ years of commercial negotiations and strategy development experience in the spirits market.
  • Knowledge and application of best in class marketing, sales & procurement skills
  • Outstanding leadership, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated experience in people management
  • Demonstrated experience in leading organizational change
  • Experience in key sales/procurement skills including negotiations, analysis, forecasting & benchmarking etc.
  • 4 year Bachelors degree required. Advanced degree a plus
