High School Turnaround Science Teacher (2024-2025 School Year)

At DPAC High School, we will strive for and achieve excellence. We will follow through on the promise we’ve made to our community to become an academic powerhouse on the historic westside of Las Vegas. We will achieve a 5-star rating according to the state of Nevada. To do so, our high school will engage in turnaround work. Our turnaround educators will show deep respect for our students’ capabilities and will embrace teaching at grade-level rigor while planning their lessons strategically to set students up for success. Our educators will show a deep commitment to supporting our young people, including through strong partnership with our families, regular advising, and consistent family communication to ensure strong attendance and academic performance. We will also have a laser focus on providing top-notch ACT Prep services, and will expand dual enrollment opportunities so that our HS students get a leg up and earn college credit before they graduate from HS.

  • A graduate of a Bachelor’s degree program (required), with 2 years of teaching and state certification (preferred). While these mindsets, skills, and qualifications are preferred given the importance of our mission and the goals we have, we also welcome new educators to the team. What You’ll Do

  • Work as part of a team to build an academic powerhouse on the historic westside of Vegas. To do this, we will focus relentlessly on grade level rigor in all courses, ACT prep beginning in 9th grade, Dual Enrollment opportunities, and targeted tutoring. 
  • Work to ensure that scholars enjoy a classroom culture characterized by high expectations and high support. All of our students are prepared for the opportunity to attend a 4-year college or university. 
  • Create an inclusive classroom and school community by engaging in training, reflection, and dialogue around issues of race, identity, diversity, equity, and inclusion for our staff and scholars.
  • Serve as an advisor to a core group of scholars. Provide weekly updates to families on academic progress and attendance. 
  • Plan and prepare for effective implementation of a coherent, vetted, research-based curriculum (StudySync for ELA and Illustrative Math for Math) and facilitate courses at grade-level rigor.
  • Incorporate ACT practice into all core curriculum classes. 
  • Facilitate Dual Enrollment classes as assigned by school leadership. 
  • Develop and use a variety of assessment data to refine curricula and instructional practice.
  • Use education technology to support student learning with rigorous curriculum.
  • Maintain strong relationships with scholars, families, and colleagues through effective and frequent communication.
  • Continuously improve your professional practice through weekly coaching sessions, professional development, and collaborative, data-driven reflection with department and grade-level teams.
  • Tutor students up to two days per week after school. 
  • Attend and participate actively in all required professional development sessions. 
  • Cultivate the social-emotional well-being of all scholars by building a positive classroom culture that leverages strong partnerships with scholars, their families, and the school's scholar support team.
  • Foster a life of active citizenship for all scholars through the implementation of age-appropriate conversations and activities centered on current events, participation in community service and outreach opportunities, and active celebration of scholars' culture, heritage, and identity.
  • Engage in whole-school events and tasks, including transitions, family conferences, tutoring, and other activities/duties as needed and assigned by school leadership.

Compensation
