Senior Commissions Accountant

The Senior Commissions Accountant is responsible for managing monthly producer compensation cycles, including the calculation and reconciliation of the compensation, payment related activities, recording and reconciling monthly broker expense and licensing fee journal entries and general ledger accounts and reporting, to ensure timely and accurate payments. The role will ensure that the company producer compensation payments are accurate and in compliance with state and federal regulations and internal policies and procedures. The role will also provide backup support, perform quality assurance verification and participate in developing and testing system maintenance and enhancements.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs monthly producer compensation calculation, reconciliation and payment trends, identifies, reports and resolves variances, creates commission invoices for payment, validate, distribute and reconcile payments.
  • Records monthly broker expense and licensing fee journal entries. Analyzes and reconciles general ledger accounts and provides variance reporting to management.
  • Researches and resolves complex or sensitive producer compensation inquiries.
  • Functions as a team lead and provides direct support to producer management analysts and trains them on producer record and relationship management, reconciliation of the calculation of compensation, payments and reporting.
  • Prepares, analyzes and reconciles state and federal reporting requirements such as: annual 1099 reconciliation, Form 5500 producer compensation reporting, CA AB 2589, DMHC reporting, etc. Assists with complex inquiries related to state and federal reporting requirements.
  • Collaborates with producer credentialing and contracting team members, state and federal regulatory agencies, partnerships and producers to resolve outstanding commissions as it relates to all line of business.
  • Contributes to monthly management and key performance metrics reporting. Prepares ad-hoc management reports.
  • Maintains and updates departmental policies and procedures as it relates to producer compensation in addition to training materials. Serves as subject matter expert for all aspects of producer compensation and general ledger reconciliation as it relates to compensation.
  • Assists with DOI and external/internal audit requests by compiling and validating information.
  • Creates reports and analyzes data to identify solutions that meet business goals. Analyzes current processes and identifies existing or potential problems in order to discover new process improvement opportunities.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications
  • 4+ w/Bachelor's degree

Additional Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with emphasis in Accounting required. Insurance and/or healthcare experience is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Advanced analytical, problem solving and reasoning skills with the ability to formulate and communicate recommendations for improvement.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications such as: Excel (Intermediate/Advance), Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams.
  • Ability to prioritize work, follow-up on commitments on a timely basis, work under pressure and adhere to deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently while having strong teaming skills.
  • Ability to communicate professionally, clearly and effectively with producers, management, staff and other business partners.
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of producer licensing, credentialing, appointments and compensation.
  • Strong knowledge of accounts receivable, accounts payable and general ledger processes and procedures.

Base Pay Information

The national base pay range at the end is a good-faith estimate of what Delta Dental may pay for new hires. Actual pay may vary based on Delta Dental's assessment of the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, certifications and ability to meet required minimum job qualifications. Other factors impacting pay include prevailing wages in the work location and internal equity.
Pay Grade 19. $63,700 - $133,500
