Policy Writer

The Policy Writer is responsible for researching, drafting, and maintaining clinical and business policies and guidelines that support accurate payment, regulatory compliance, and high-quality care across the enterprise. This role works closely with clinical experts, business leaders, and operational stakeholders to ensure all policies reflect current clinical standards, support business strategies, and align with regulatory and contractual requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct external review of scientific research and industry best practices for clinical policy to inform Delta Dental business and clinical policies.
  • Collaborate with dentists, clinical experts, business stakeholders and cross-functional teams to ensure the accuracy and relevance of clinical and business policies.
  • Monitor changes in clinical guidelines, regulatory requirements, and payer trends to update policies proactively.
  • Write clear, concise, and well-structured clinical policy documents that align with organizational standards and legal requirements.
  • Continuously review and revise existing dental policies to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and improve clarity for implementation.
  • Provide input and subject matter expertise on enterprise initiatives related to or impacting clinical and business policy.
  • Support audits and reviews of clinical and business policies by providing thorough documentation and rationale for policy decisions.
  • Assist in the development of training materials, resources and communications related to dental and business policies for internal teams.
  • Write clinical policies and guidelines for dental care services and business policies for claim outcomes and payments.

Qualifications:

  • 4+ w/Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience working in a clinical related function preferred. Writing clinical policy and payment policies highly preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of CDT codes and dental nomenclature.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook etc.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to successfully communicate ideas and recommendations to all levels within the organization.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong presentation skills. Comfortable with presenting to all levels of management.
  • Knowledge of Delta Dental products, policies, claims, eligibility and underwriting guidelines.
  • High level of proficiency, accuracy, integrity, and attention to detail.

Licenses
• DDM - Doctor Of Dental Medicine. Upon Hire Pref'
• DDS - Doctor Of Dental Surgery. Upon Hire Pref'
• RDH - Registered Dental Hygienist. Upon Hire Pref'

Base Pay Information

The national base pay range at the end is a good-faith estimate of what Delta Dental may pay for new hires. Actual pay may vary based on Delta Dental's assessment of the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, certifications and ability to meet required minimum job qualifications. Other factors impacting pay include prevailing wages in the work location and internal equity.
Pay Grade 21. $80,500 - $174,300
