Platform Engineering Manager (Cloud | DevOps)

San Francisco, CA

The Platform Engineering Manager will be responsible for facilitating and directing the design, development and maintenance of both cloud and platform services including DevOps related functions to ensure IT foundational and modernization goals are met. The leader in this position provides tactical and strategic direction for the Platform Services team in collaboration with Product, Application Development, Infrastructure and Operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Drives the recruitment, evaluation, motivation, development and performance of team members
  • Develops policies, procedures, and standards in compliance with industry best practices and optimizes operational activities to drive efficiency and achieve continuous improvement while supporting customer service agreements
  • Monitors and oversees initiatives and deliverables including but not limited to completion of comprehensive definition of direction, scope and objectives; development of work plans, schedules and budgets; determination of staffing requirements; definition of deliverables; and establishment of design review and quality assurance checkpoints for all aspects of the initiatives
  • Drives increased efficiency across the teams, eliminating duplication, leveraging product and technology reuse
  • Reviews, manages, and resolves complex and highly complex problems involving one or more teams, systems or functions
  • Undertakes and oversees the process of defining problems and implementing solutions
  • Influences decision making in functional and technical designs through active partnership with cross-functional teams
  • Influences decision making in Technology and Product through active partnership with Product and stakeholders
  • Provides ongoing education to the team to ensure proactive modernization and awareness of emerging technologies
  • Provides leadership and documentation in support of enterprise adoption
  • Promotes innovation, instills passion for delivering delight and empowering teams to achieve high performance

Qualifications:

  • Experience in enterprise technologies, application architecture and modern cloud technologies
  • Experience developing and testing high-performing platform services
  • Experience developing and deploying services on top of modern cloud services; preferably Azure
  • Familiarity with microservices architecture and container orchestration
  • Partner with application and infrastructure teams to design, build and deploy new technologies and services with a strong focus on performance, reliability and security
  • Lead DevOps responsibilities while nurturing a continuous improvement mindset
  • Ability to lead the communication of key platform solutions in order to drive adoption across teams
  • Ability to research and maintain current and emerging technical knowledge to support rapidly changing cloud technology
  • Ability to analyze business requirements and recommend favorable solutions in a timely fashion
  • Experience in preparing business plans, IT plans, technology roadmaps, and technical project proposals
  • Knowledge in preparing and managing budgets
  • Experience interacting with vendors and third parties to define and deliver solutions

Base Pay Information

The national base pay range at the end is a good-faith estimate of what Delta Dental may pay for new hires. Actual pay may vary based on Delta Dental's assessment of the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, certifications and ability to meet required minimum job qualifications. Other factors impacting pay include prevailing wages in the work location and internal equity. $133,300 - $260,000
