Actuarial Manager - Medicare and Individual Rating

Gunnison, CO / Remote

This job is responsible for providing leadership, oversight, support and guidance to an actuarial team, and ensuring actuarial activities promote corporate growth and profitability objectives. The responsibilities of this position include training and coaching team members as well as involvement in staff management activities such as recruiting, interviewing, and job performance evaluation and providing input to departmental planning for staffing and staff training. Helps to maintain financial profitability for the organization and participates in presentations to both internal and external customers to explain and support actuarial analyses and methodologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads rating, rate filing and analytics for Individual, Healthcare Reform, and medical partnership lines-of-business
  • Leads rating, rate filing and analytics for AARP line-of-business
  • Leads rating and analytics for Medicare Advantage Organization line-of-business
  • Manages and develops Actuarial staff to achieve department objectives including determining staffing needs, setting goals, interviewing, selecting, coaching, and evaluating the performance of all direct reports
  • Guides analysis of large, high profile, strategic, or complex cases and provides recommendations to actuarial management
  • Provides new hire and ongoing training and communicates methodological, procedural or regulatory updates
  • Evaluates work or project requests to determine feasibility (cost/benefit analyses) and appropriate department resourcing
  • Ensures work and projects are completed within schedules and commitments
  • Advises and provides guidance on actuarial reporting or analyses to internal and external customers
  • Ensures support to enterprise alignment and enhancement activities
  • Contributes input to Director and others to aid planning for staffing and staff training needs

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience w/Bachelor's degree; 1+ years supervisory/management experience
  • Candidate must have achieved their actuarial credentials (ASA or FSA), or be close to attaining their ASA, having passed a minimum of 4 Actuarial exams
  • Advanced communication skills, written and verbal, are required
  • Knowledge of actuarial concepts, practices and procedures is required
  • Expertise with statistics and statistical applications is required
  • Knowledge of database design, structure and tools is required
  • SQL experience is preferred
  • Strong organization, time and project management skills and multi-tasking capabilities are required
  • Candidate must be detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem solving skills

Base Pay Information

The national base pay range at the end is a good-faith estimate of what Delta Dental may pay for new hires. Actual pay may vary based on Delta Dental's assessment of the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, certifications and ability to meet required minimum job qualifications. Other factors impacting pay include prevailing wages in the work location and internal equity.
Pay Grade 24. $122,400 - $265,100
