The Pilot Safety Representative position is required to have technical knowledge of aircraft flying operations and the safety data sources as well as the standards and training curriculum used to ensure safety at Delta Air Lines. This role will be expected to serve as a translator between the operations and the safety teams to supports hazard identification and risk mitigation strategies. This role will be accountable to the Flight Operations SMS process and will report to the Tech Manager under Flight Safety.

Primary Functions

  • Work within the framework of Flight Operations' Safety Assurance to ensure that safety data analysis and operational knowledge are effectively evaluated during the recommendation and decision-making processes.
  • Perform System Task Analysis functions within the SMS framework as needed.
  • Assist the risk mitigation process by creating analysis, documentation, and recommendations based on identified safety risk and within the Flight Ops SMS framework.
  • Maintain relationships across the Flight Ops functional areas to ensure that hazards, knowledge, and analysis are being connected to the Flight Ops SMS framework.
  • Regularly evaluate safety data sets that contain information around hazards, both known and unknown, to provide insights to Flight Safety and Flight Operations.
  • Provide regular products based on the analysis and evaluation of safety data sets to the Flight Safety and Flight Operations SMS meetings.
  • Meet on a monthly, or more frequent basis, with other members of the safety representative team to ensure team cohesion and effective analysis.
  • Attend SMS and safety data meetings as needed.
  • Stay engaged with industry efforts to continuously learn and improve aviation safety. Provide examples of techniques, systems, and processes that could be used to improve safety at Delta.

What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)

  • Qualified line pilot.
  • Must have a working knowledge of flight operations and flight safety metrics.
  • Strong written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • A natural curiosity towards constant improvement.
  • Must be able to interact and collaborate at all levels within Corporate Safety Security and Compliance, Flight Operations, cross-divisional working groups, and outside entities.
  • Able to travel to ATL Headquarters for regular meetings.
  • Consistently prioritizes safety and security of self, others, and personal data.
  • Embraces a diverse set of people, thinking and styles.
  • Possesses a high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency.
  • Is at least 18 years of age and has authorization to work in the United States.
