Position Summary

Deloitte Tax LLP seeks a Tax Senior in New York, NY.

Work You'll Do

Provide tax consulting services to corporate clients. Identify complex tax issues and provide tax analysis for a variety of entities and their affiliates. Assist clients to balance compliance details and long-term tax strategies as well as understand national and state tax structures and align tax functions with business objectives. Provide day-to-day client service relationships and service gateway to a variety of specialized tax services that can help improve compliance with taxing entities while maintaining each client's overall tax risk profile. Under the supervision of Tax Managers, oversee tax consulting projects for clients in diverse industries. Assist with tax planning opportunity identification, implementing tax planning projects, providing tax research and analysis for clients in diverse industries, and keeping up-to-date on current tax practices and technical issues. Develop a working knowledge of the client's business and tax systems, track and complete open items relating to assigned areas, meet client deadlines, and contribute to the successful completion of projects. Actively participate in engagement planning. Mentor and coach junior team members and escalate issues when necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's (or higher) degree in Accounting, Economics, Taxation, Law, or related field (willing to accept foreign education equivalent).
  • Eighteen months as Tax Senior or related occupation gaining experience providing tax planning services or preparing and reviewing client work papers and tax returns.
  • Experience must include eighteen months of:
    • Reviewing client information, including federal income tax returns, annual reports (Form 10-K), trial balances, schedules of cumulative deferred taxes, and tax fixed asset ledgers to understand the client's current tax position and help develop and implement tax planning strategies;
    • Assisting clients with federal tax planning opportunities, focusing on current capitalization methodologies, and accounting periods and methods to pursue cash flow savings;
    • Researching and analyzing updates to tax law, including legislative changes, proposed and temporary regulations, federal case law, tax court opinions, revenue procedures, and private letter rulings in order to provide oral and written advice to clients;
    • Developing financial models in Excel based on existing tax laws and client facts to calculate the tax benefits of adopting a certain accounting method;
    • Assisting with the preparation of engagement letters, work plans and budgets associated with client engagements;
    • Assisting with preparing and filing Form 3115, Application for Change in Accounting Method, pursuant to the applicable Revenue Procedures, with the Internal Revenue Service;
    • Preparing procedural and technical memoranda documenting and supporting tax positions and adjustments calculated;
    • Preparing fully referenced deliverable work papers in support of tax return adjustments;
    • Preparing ancillary tax forms to the federal income tax return, including for capitalization election, depreciation elections, safe harbor election, and diminutive elections; and
    • Reviewing and analyzing client's federal depreciation attributes.
    • Salary: $81,620.00 - $151,580.00/yr.
