As a Staff Software Development Engineer - Middleware & Integration (MQ/ACE), you will play a pivotal role in our Integration Engineering team, contributing to a strategic initiative aimed at transforming the CVS customer service experience. This position focuses on designing and implementing scalable, secure, and high-performing integration solutions using IBM MQ, App Connect Enterprise (ACE), and microservices architecture.

You will be responsible for translating enterprise integration strategies into actionable designs and solutions, leveraging your deep expertise in middleware technologies and cloud-native development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of integration solutions using IBM MQ and ACE.
  • Research and propose innovative middleware and integration strategies aligned with enterprise architecture.
  • Document architectural frameworks, standards, and reference materials.
  • Design and enhance components of new and existing systems to support seamless integration across business platforms.
  • Develop and maintain reusable services, connectors, and utility components for enterprise-wide use.
  • Analyze existing IT environments to identify integration gaps and recommend improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to estimate, plan, and deliver integration solutions.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers on middleware and integration best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with enterprise architecture standards and governance policies.
  • Support lab environments and vendor technologies for integration testing and validation.
Required Qualifications
  • 8+ years of experience in middleware integration and architecture, with a strong focus on IBM MQ and ACE.
  • 5+ years of experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs and microservices in cloud environments.
  • 4+ years of experience with enterprise architecture methodologies and design patterns.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or Go, and frameworks like Spring Boot or Flask.
  • Experience with high-volume transaction systems and performance engineering.
  • Strong understanding of API versioning, error handling, and security best practices.
  • Familiarity with service governance frameworks like OpenAPI.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and test-driven development (TDD/BDD).
  • Knowledge of security protocols, authentication/authorization mechanisms, and encryption in integration contexts.
  • Exposure to chaos engineering and resilience testing for distributed systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience with messaging systems, middleware platforms, and RESTful services.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with IBM MQ and App Connect Enterprise (ACE).
  • Experience with architecture design tools and modeling frameworks.
  • Ability to assess the impact of integration changes on business processes and data flow.
  • Familiarity with data architecture and governance principles.
  • Experience with event streaming platforms like Kafka.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
  • Background in healthcare systems or digital transformation initiatives is a plus.
Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Equivalent experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience) will also be considered.Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:$130,295.00 - $260,590.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
