Senior Data Engineering Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Data Engineering Manager to lead and mentor our data engineering team of 6-8 data engineers. This role is crucial for scaling our data platform, establishing best practices, and ensuring we can deliver on the data needs of our business. You will be a hands-on leader, combining deep technical expertise with strong people management skills to drive our data strategy forward.
The position is open in a data engineering team that is responsible for processing Claims, Revenue, and Medicare Specific files and data from 30+ payors into our Data Warehouse.Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership & Management:
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of talented data engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Manage the hiring, training, and professional development of team members.
- Conduct performance reviews, provide regular feedback, and guide career paths.
- Technical Strategy & Execution:
- Own the technical vision and roadmap for our data platform, ensuring it aligns with business objectives and scales with company growth.
- Lead the design, development, and maintenance of robust, scalable, and reliable data pipelines and data warehouses.
- Drive best practices in data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, and data governance.
- Oversee the implementation of new data technologies and architectures
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Partner with product managers, data scientists, analysts, and other engineering teams to understand data needs and deliver effective solutions.
- Translate complex business requirements into clear, actionable technical plans.
- Communicate technical concepts and project progress to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

- Ensure the data platform meets our standards for performance, security, and data quality.
- Establish and maintain a culture of operational excellence, including monitoring, alerting, and incident response.
- Manage and optimize data infrastructure costs.
- A bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in data engineering, with 5+ years in a technical leadership or management role.
- Proven experience building and leading high-performing data engineering teams.
- Deep expertise with modern data technologies, including:
- Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Big data frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark, Hadoop).
- Data warehousing solutions (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery).
- Workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Dagster).
- Solid experience with SQL, Python, PySpark.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- A strategic mindset with the ability to balance long-term vision with immediate business needs.
- Experience with real-time data streaming technologies (e.g., Kafka).
- Familiarity with healthcare data and healthcare insurance feeds
- Familiarity with Data Analytics and reporting
- Familiarity with ML/AI
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science / Engineering
The typical pay range for this role is:$130,295.00 - $260,590.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
