Position Summary:

The Principal Data Architect is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining efficient and scalable data architecture within an organization. They collaborate with various stakeholders to understand data requirements, create robust data models, and ensure the integrity, security, and performance of the data infrastructure. This includes having the strong ability to look around the corner at emerging technologies and advise senior leadership around the strategic technical vision for the data space. The Data Architect role is crucial for organizations aiming to leverage data effectively for strategic decision-making and operational efficiency.

*This position can sit in multiple CVS locations to include remote.

Accountabilities include:
  • Data Strategy Development: Develop and implement a strategic vision for the organization's data architecture aligned with business objectives.
  • Data Modeling: Design conceptual, logical, and physical data models to support business needs, ensuring data integrity, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Database Management: Oversee database design, implementation, optimization, and maintenance to support application development and business operations.
  • Data Governance and Compliance: Ensure adherence to data governance policies, standards, and regulatory requirements to maintain data security, privacy, and compliance.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with stakeholders, including business analysts, data engineers, IT teams, and management, to understand data needs and drive alignment.
  • Technology Evaluation and Implementation: Assess new technologies, tools, and methodologies to enhance data management processes and recommend their adoption where applicable.
  • Performance Optimization: Identify performance bottlenecks and implement solutions to optimize data storage, retrieval, and processing.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Document data architecture designs, guidelines, and best practices. Provide regular reports and updates on data-related activities.
  • Architecture and design reviews: Play a key leadership role in architecture design reviews and identify gaps and recommend design changes. Actively lead and participate in the Architecture community to drive modernization opportunities for the advancement of Data platform to support Healthcare Business Unit while keeping in mind the complexities of our IT landscape.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years working as a data architect or in a similar role.
  • 7+ years in design/development experience database design, data modeling, and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and building reports.
  • Best in class technical subject matter expertise and domain knowledge related to data lake/warehouse management for large scale enterprise.
  • Strong understanding of data management principles, data governance, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience with relational and non-relational databases, data warehousing, and big data technologies.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based data solutions (Azure, GCP, Snowflake) and their associated services is often preferred.
  • Certifications in relevant areas (e.g., Certified Data Management Professional - CDMP) can be advantageous.
  • Facilitates adoption of cloud-native/cloud-first architectures.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in the Insurance data domain is a PLUS.
  • Experience in GCP/BigQuery is preferred.
  • Experience in migration from On-Prem Data Warehouse (like DB2, Hadoop) to Cloud Data Warehouse (like GCP, Snowflake) is preferred.
Education
  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, information systems or related field or equivelant experience required
  • Masters Degree in Computer Science, information systems or related field or equivelant experience preferred
Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$144,200.00 - $288,400.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company's equity award program.
