This strategic leadership role will oversee the dayto-day operations of our diverse data ecosystem while orchestrating the migration from legacy systems to a modern, unified Databricks platform.   • Oversee daily operations and maintenance of multiple data platforms including:
  • Legacy SQL-based data warehouse systems
  • Existing Palantir/Foundry implementation
  • File movement platforms such as Axway and similar technologies
  • New Databricks platform development and deployment
  • Ensure platform reliability, performance, and availability across all systems
  • Establish and maintain data platform SLAs and monitoring frameworks
  • Lead incident response and resolution for platform-related issues
Strategic Migration Leadership
  • Develop and execute comprehensive migration strategy from legacy systems to Databricks
  • Create detailed decommissioning plans for legacy SQL warehouse and Palantir/Foundry systems
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure seamless data and workload transitions
  • Minimize business disruption during migration phases
  • Establish timeline, milestones, and success criteria for platform modernization
  • Ensure alignment with the overall Health Care Delivery and CVS enterprise data platform strategy
Team Leadership & Development
  • Build, lead, and mentor a team of data platform leaders and engineers
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with engineering, analytics, product, architecture and business stakeholder teams
  • Provide technical guidance and strategic direction to team members
  • Conduct performance reviews and support career development
Technical Architecture & Strategy
  • Define technical architecture and standards for the new Databricks environment
  • Evaluate and implement data platform tools, technologies, and best practices
  • Ensure data governance, security, and compliance across all platforms
  • Drive adoption of modern data engineering practices (CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, etc.)
  • Establish data quality frameworks and monitoring systems
Stakeholder Management
  • Partner with senior leadership to align data platform strategy with business objectives
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, data science, analytics, and business intelligence teams on platform requirements
  • Communicate platform status, migration progress, and strategic initiatives to executive leadership
  • Manage vendor relationships with Databricks, Palantir, and other technology partners
Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in data platform engineering, data architecture, or related fields
  • 8+ years in a leadership role managing data platform teams (5+ engineers)
  • Proven experience with large-scale data platform migrations and system decommissioning
  • Hands-on experience with SQL-based data warehouses (DB2, Snowflake, Redshift, Teradata, etc.)
  • Experience with Databricks platform implementation and management (preferred)
  • Expert knowledge of modern data platform architectures and technologies
  • Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, and data pipeline orchestration tools
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and associated data services
  • Knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance frameworks
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
  • Understanding of CI/CD practices and DevOps methodologies
  • Proven track record of leading enterprise level initiatives and aligning with a complex set of enterprise stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to translate technical concepts to business stakeholders
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and contract negotiations
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in healthcare interoperability and payer integrations
  • Experience in healthcare data platforms and compliance requirements (HIPAA, etc.)
  • Databricks certification(s) or equivalent cloud platform certifications
Education

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or related technical fieldPay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:$175,100.00 - $334,750.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company's equity award program.Our people fuel our future.
