CVS Caremark is the nation's leading pharmacy benefit manager (PBM). We work to ensure the path to better health is affordable, easy to access, and simple to follow, for our 103 million plan members. We provide personalized support to help people start and stay on their medications, because people who take their medications have better outcomes and lower health care costs.CVS Caremark is seeking a visionary Executive Director of Business Architecture to build and lead a transformative business architecture function. This role will serve as a strategic enterprise leader, responsible for designing and scaling a capability that drives durable, scalable, and value-driven transformation across CVS Health.Major Responsibilities
Strategic Architecture Leadership
- Establish and lead the Business Architecture function, defining its vision, operating model, and integration with enterprise architecture.
- Develop and maintain business capability maps, value streams, and customer journey frameworks to guide strategic planning and transformation.
- Translate enterprise strategy into actionable architecture blueprints that align people, processes, data, and technology.
- Act as a strategic partner to senior leaders across Product, Finance, Technology, Operations, and other business units.
- Shape and influence enterprise-wide architecture standards, governance, and practices to ensure consistency and scalability.
- Facilitate cross-functional workshops to define current and future state architectures, identify pain points, and uncover transformation opportunities.
- Lead teams of business process engineers, solution architects, and experience designers to deliver integrated, end-to-end transformation views.
- Ensure business architecture artifacts inform and are informed by system design, workflow orchestration, and user-centric solutions.
- Build and manage a high-performing team of business architects and analysts.
- Define measurable OKRs, quarterly deliverables, and implementation roadmaps that link architecture to business outcomes.
- Align business and technical architecture to enable seamless execution of strategic initiatives.
- Present architecture strategies and insights to Executive Committees, Steering Committees, and senior leadership.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
The candidate will have a strong work ethic, be a self-starter, and be able to be highly productive in a dynamic, collaborative environment. This position offers broad exposure to all aspects of the company's business, as well as significant interaction with all the business leaders. The candidate will be expected to have the following key attributes:
- 10+ years of experience in the healthcare ecosystem.
- Proven leadership in business architecture, strategic planning, and capability modeling.
- Experience with Agile, SAFe, or similar delivery methodologies.
- Deep understanding of PBM workflows and pharmacy operations will be valued.
- Strong influencing skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders in a matrixed environment.
- Ability to define and measure architecture impact through KPIs and value tracking.
- Experience building architecture functions from the ground up will be valued.
- Certifications in Business Architecture (e.g., BIZBOK), BPM, or Lean Six Sigma will be valued.
- Familiarity with enterprise architecture tools and frameworks.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional communication and executive presentation skills.

The typical pay range for this role is:$131,500.00 - $303,195.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
