Supplier Quality Engineer - Technical Specialist

DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a talented Supplier Quality Engineer - Technical Specialist to join our team, specialising in Quality for Accelera in Milton Keynes, United Kingdom.

This remote role is open to candidates based anywhere in the UK and includes monthly travel to our plant operations in Spain.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Drive Supplier Excellence: Lead supplier welding approvals and continuous improvement strategies to elevate quality across the supply chain.
  • Act as Welding SME: Serve as the go-to expert during new supplier onboarding and First Article Inspections (FAI), ensuring welding standards are met.
  • Enhance Manufacturing Quality: Apply APQP, AIAG, and Cummins-specific tools to develop zero-defect components and processes.
  • Lead Corrective Actions: Resolve complex supplier quality issues through root cause analysis and verification of corrective actions.
  • Strengthen Relationships: Build trust with suppliers, internal teams, and customers to improve quality outcomes and collaboration.
  • Support Design for Manufacturing: Partner with Engineering to assess manufacturability and contribute to welding-related standards.
  • Champion Continuous Improvement: Lead Lean and Six Sigma projects focused on welding and manufacturing process enhancements.
  • Audit and Validate Suppliers: Conduct prefabrication audits and inspections to ensure supplier readiness and risk mitigation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To be successful in this role, you will need the following:

  • Technical Mastery: Deep knowledge of welding standards (ASME, ISO), NDT methods, and defect prevention techniques.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to interpret technical drawings, document findings clearly, and communicate across diverse teams.
  • Problem-Solving Expertise: Use structured methodologies to identify root causes and implement robust solutions.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work effectively with Engineering, Purchasing, and Manufacturing to align on quality goals.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Welding Engineering or certification from recognised bodies such as The Welding Institute (TWI) or the International Institute of Welding (IIW).
  • Experience working in the oil and gas or automotive industry, with hands-on involvement in pressure vessel and pipe spool manufacturing, and regulated environments.
