Obtain input and lead the negotiation with cross-functional and cross-discipline technical experts and senior-level designers to communicate the mechanical components and subsystem design intent through a thorough Design Review package to the Product Preceding Technology (PPT), Value Package Introduction (VPI), or Value Package Change Request (VPCR) team. Lead the design decision making in the areas of mechanical component and subsystem design concept selection, concept optimization, and design specifications that impact customers targeted to be served by a given PPT, VPI, or VPCR initiative. Apply processes including Critical Design Decisions, System Design and Validation Consideration Checklist, Design Review, and tools including iDFMEA, DVA, GD&T, CREO and ANSYS Workbench required to enable high quality subsystem-level design decision making and mechanical design refinement. Translate the value package requirements that include the voices of many stakeholders into virtual designs, and communicate the capability of the mechanical design through an approved cross-functional design review. Design for requirements of all lifecycle stages by considering the customer requirements in different operating environments to ensure a robust mechanical system. Create complete mechanical design specifications in the form of solid models, configured engineering bill of materials and detailed drawings that cross-functionally communicate the information required to manufacture and inspect a product per its design intent. Consider national, international, industry, and Cummins' standards that accurately and concisely define the part specification. Create Computer Aided Design models in accordance with Cummins' standards to represent architectural or product level mechanical system design concepts, and to enable completion of various system-level computer analyses such as Dimensional Variation Analysis and Finite Element Analysis. Solve mechanical product problems using a process that protects the customer, determine the assignable cause, implement data-based solutions, identify systemic root causes, and recommend actions to prevent problem reoccurrence. Plan and lead critical reliability activities during new product development by preventing failures before hardware, detecting failures before the customer, and improving products before production in order to release a reliable and durable product. Evaluate key technical and program measures to assess the launch readiness of a new mechanical products using prescribed indicators, measures, risk scales and methods of tracking to focus attention on metrics to reduce risk and improve reliability.
