DESCRIPTION
Design and specify test systems that allow operation of company products in a laboratory environment for engineering evaluation to optimize product designs. Specify, design, implement, and validate test systems including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, instrumentation, data acquisition and control systems. Obtain input and negotiate with product engineers, product validation engineers and equipment manufacturers and deliver working test systems, processes and documentation to lab operations personnel and product engineers. Make decisions in the areas of appropriate technologies, equipment sourcing and quality processes that impact accuracy, reliability, operating cost, and compliance to standards and regulations. Improve processes such as test equipment design, maintenance and calibration and utilize tools including Measurement Systems Analysis, Process Hazard Analysis, fault tree analysis and 7 step problem solving, required to enable high quality decision making. Select appropriate equipment and techniques to operate the product and record operational data in a hardware or software-based testing environment most often required as part of a product verification or validation plan. Evaluate quality and validity of measurement data and analyze test results using accepted standards to characterize product capabilities in alignment with the requirements of the engineer responsible for making product decisions. Apply Laboratory Equipment Safety techniques to evaluate hazards specific to laboratory test equipment that may result from fuels, kinetic energy, toxins, electrical or other risks in the test environment. Interpret test equipment specifications from test standards or lab customer requirements as part of Product Function Test System Design. Integrate appropriate equipment, instrumentation and software to control boundary conditions and collect measurement data. Assess capability of the lab equipment against the requirements and support infrastructure. Analyze measurement processes throughout the relevant traceability chain to identify and quantify sources of measurement uncertainty relevant to the appropriate applied measurement science. Conduct functional analysis to identify engineering development needs and process improvements. Lead product verification and validation plans and establish and maintain Scope, Schedule, and Resources as part of project management.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Positions require a Master's degree in Mechanical or Materials Engineering, Engineering Management, or related field and 2 years of experience as a Product, Laboratory, or Test Engineer, or related position. Alternatively, the employer will accept a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Materials Engineering, Engineering Management, or related field and 5 years of experience as a Product, Laboratory, or Test Engineer, or related position. Experience to include: Product Function Test System Design; Applied measurement science; Laboratory Equipment Safety techniques; Measurement Systems Analysis and Process Hazard Analysis; Fault tree analysis and 7 step problem solving; Identify engineering development needs and process improvements; Scope, Schedule and Resources Project Management; Implement and validate test systems; Select appropriate equipment as part of a product verification or validation plan.
