DESCRIPTION

Apply advanced knowledge of packaging engineering principles and practices across complex projects in design, analysis, and release of packaging and container systems through the product life cycle. Provide technical and project management guidance to Packaging Engineers and other Stakeholders. Prepare and manage packaging inputs into the annual operating plan, including expense, resources, and capital. Develop, monitor and report packaging improvement project work plans and cost reduction targets. Solve problems and drive continuous packaging improvement in the supply chain, improving total cost and customer/supplier delivered quality utilizing knowledge of six sigma technologies including DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control). Utilize mechanical engineering expertise to develop primary, secondary and tertiary packaging designs for industrial products to ensure product protection for all touch points of an end-to-end supply chain. Apply knowledge of manufacturing process, equipment and the physical flows of inbound parts to finished goods to establish industrial packaging methods and equipment that integrate safely and efficiently into the operational environment. Evaluate performance validation tests, standards and reports to distinguish best method to apply. Interpret test reports and draws conclusions in order to ensure packaging performance meets transit and handling conditions. Recognize Packaging Distribution Conditions and Dynamics to account for environmental conditions and hazards to ensure product protection. Work cross-functionally and with customers and suppliers to identify and deliver improvement strategies to packaging quality, total cost, and waste, in line with organizational goals. Identify organizational packaging training needs and manage development and deployment of the training plan. Deliver on the strategy for sustainable packaging and provide guidance to sites in identifying opportunities and the application of best practices. Ensure direct suppliers' conformance to the organization's Global Packaging Standards. Provide functional support to Corporate Indirect Purchasing in negotiating agreements specific to packaging material and services. Monitor packaging environmental and regulatory requirements and ensure compliance. Manage the implementation and operations integration of returnable container management systems and processes that deliver savings in material and transportation while reducing waste. Coach, develop, and empower team to enable them to execute their work and deliver results. Monitor and measure effectiveness of the team against key process indicators, ensuring project completion to plan.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Positions require a Master's degree in Packaging Engineering, Packaging Science, or related field and 3 years of experience as a Packaging Engineer or related position. Alternatively, the employer will accept a Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Packaging Science, or related field and 5 years of experience as a Packaging Engineer or related position. Experience to include: Manage annual operating plan; Drive continuous improvement utilizing six sigma technologies including DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control); Industrial Packaging Design; Packaging Testing to ensure compliance with Global Packaging Standards; Packaging Distribution Conditions and Dynamics; Environmentally Sustainable Packaging Principles; Returnable Packaging Management; Operations Integration in Industrial Packaging; Monitor key process indicators.
