DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a talented Machining Engineer - Senior (On-Site) to join our team specializing in Manufacturing for our Cummins Inc. facility in Seymour, IN.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Optimize Manufacturing Efficiency You'll identify and implement tooling and part solutions that reduce setup times and streamline changeovers, directly improving production throughput and responsiveness.
- Drive Technical Innovation By designing and analyzing machining systems, you'll introduce new technologies and methods that enhance product quality and operational reliability.
- Solve Engineering Challenges Collaborating with engineering teams, you'll troubleshoot product and performance issues, offering practical solutions that improve functionality and reduce downtime.
- Enhance Equipment Performance Your evaluations and recommendations will lead to smarter equipment designs and upgrades, boosting availability and capability across the plant.
- Mentor and Develop Talent Coaching less experienced team members will help build a stronger, more capable engineering team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Champion Continuous Improvement Using lean tools and cross-functional collaboration, you'll lead initiatives that eliminate waste, improve cycle times, and elevate overall process effectiveness.
- Ensure Quality and Compliance Your design and documentation work will support consistent product quality and adherence to industry standards, reducing defects and rework.
- Strategically Influence Capital Investments Through your planning and purchasing decisions, you'll help the organization make smart investments in machining equipment that align with long-term manufacturing goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES
To be successful in this role, you will need the following:
- Technical Mastery in Manufacturing Processes Proficiency in drawing interpretation , cutting material selection , machine programming , and material removal tooling ensures you can design and implement machining solutions that meet product specifications efficiently.
- Effective Communication Across Teams Strong skills in communicating effectively and collaborating will help you align with cross-functional teams, share insights clearly, and drive shared goals forward.
- Commitment to Health and Safety Excellence A proactive approach to health and safety fundamentals and machine guarding is essential to foster a safe work environment and reduce operational risks.
- Strategic Equipment and Capital Procurement The ability to select and justify equipment investments that meet manufacturing needs and align with company standards is crucial for long-term success.
- Precision in Measurement and Quality Assurance Knowledge of dimensional metrology and measurement process design enables you to ensure product conformity and support continuous quality improvement.
- Process Standardization and Continuous Improvement Skills in process documentation and manufacturing knowledge allow you to implement changes effectively, maintain consistency, and contribute to ongoing process optimization.
Education, Licenses, Certifications:
College, university, or degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or related field, or equivalent experience required.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience:
Intermediate level of relevant work experience required.
QUALIFICATIONS

- Role Expectations: This position is listed as a hybrid role; however, the hiring manager will require the selected candidate to report on-site 100% of the time. Flexible hours for work life balance.
- Demonstrate initiative and leadership by independently identifying, managing, and resolving production equipment and process issues, while proactively pursuing opportunities for growth and development within the role.
- Develop and write CNC programs based on technical part drawings, ensuring precision and alignment with manufacturing specifications.
- Apply expertise in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to interpret and implement design requirements accurately in machining processes.
- Collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams , including Operations, Quality, Health, Safety & Environment (HSE), and Materials, to support plant-wide initiatives and drive continuous improvement.
- Provide supervision and mentorship to Manufacturing Engineers, Advanced Technology Associates (ATAs), interns/co-ops, and School-to-Work students, while maintaining direct responsibilities for machining support.
- Utilize CAD modeling software and CNC equipment experience to program, operate, and troubleshoot machinery, with a preference for familiarity with Siemens and Fanuc control systems.
