Current Product Reliability Engineer - Technical Specialist
DESCRIPTION
As a Current Product Reliability Engineer - Technical Specialist at Cummins, you will apply advanced statistical techniques and reliability engineering tools to assess and improve the performance and durability of current products. You will lead cross-functional initiatives aimed at reducing failures, quantifying design impacts, and developing innovative reliability methods. This role serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for reliability across Cummins' product range and actively collaborates with engineering, quality, service, finance, and marketing teams to deliver customer-centric reliability solutions.
Note:- Although the role category specified in the GPP is Remote, the requirement is for Hybrid
Key Responsibilities:
- Apply advanced statistical tools and life data analysis techniques to quantify current product reliability.
- Conduct detailed reliability analyses using tools such as Weibull++, Minitab, JMP, SAS , and develop new tools and processes to enhance reliability insights.
- Collaborate with cross-functional global teams to address product reliability concerns, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective/preventive actions.
- Provide technical direction, lead small projects or project segments, and mentor junior engineers.
- Participate in product failure mode avoidance and quantitative reliability analysis efforts.
- Develop and analyze reliability test plans, including accelerated testing and system-level validation.
- Support ongoing problem-solving initiatives with focus on reducing warranty issues and enhancing customer satisfaction.
- Utilize Microsoft tools like PowerPoint, SharePoint, Power BI for effective data visualization and reporting.
- Drive global alignment with Cummins' quality and reliability standards.
- Communicate findings and recommendations effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Skills & Competencies:
Technical Competencies:
- Strong hands-on experience with reliability tools : Weibull++, Minitab, JMP, SAS.
- Solid knowledge of engine systems and components , particularly in service, quality, and reliability functions.
- Proficient in statistical modeling, hypothesis testing , regression, and DOE (Design of Experiments).
- Expertise in Product Failure Mode Avoidance (PFMEA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and CAPA processes .
- Familiarity with quantitative reliability analysis and accelerated life testing .
- Working knowledge of R and Python for data analytics and reliability modeling.
- Strong understanding of Cummins Quality systems and processes is an advantage.
Leadership & Collaboration:
- Proven ability to lead small teams and collaborate with global cross-functional stakeholders .
- Able to mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical knowledge sharing.
- Capable of driving continuous improvement initiatives across departments.
Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
- Excellent communication skills - verbal, written, and visual.
- Strong customer focus with a global perspective.

Experience:
- 3-7 years of experience in reliability engineering, product quality, service engineering, or related technical domains.
- Demonstrated success in managing reliability projects or critical product components independently.
QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications & Education:
- Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Mechanical, Electrical, Reliability Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline.
- Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) from ASQ is highly preferred.
- Six Sigma Green Belt certified/trained is a plus.
