As a Disease Area Expert Rare Renal Disease you will be accountable for executing on existing and informing new Therapeutic Area (TA) strategic directions in rare renal disease including identification of promising new targets, pathomechanisms and indications aligned with CSL development capabilities (internal and external). In this position you will be directly reporting to the Cardiovascular and Renal Research Therapeutic Area Lead (CVR RTAL).

Your Role

Scientific Leadership and Strategy

  • Responsible for patho-mechanism and disease indication reviews to identify new strategic directions and review and refine existing strategies, in particular with respect to:
    • new targets / pathways
    • new indications
    • new patient segments
  • Co-develop, in liaison with the Research Therapeutic Area Lead (RTAL), the portfolio strategy for Therapeutic Area (TA) relevant disease areas
  • Identify and evaluate emerging trends and technologies as well as generate and maintain relevant indication competitive landscapes to define areas of future unmet need and differentiation opportunities; stay abreast of the industry pipeline in relevant indication segments
  • Develop and maintain indication TPPs in collaboration with Clinical Development and Commercial
  • Generate new product opportunities (NPOs) in collaboration with the RTAL, other TA team members and functional representatives including the preparation of S0 and SG1 proposals for approval by governance bodies
  • Evaluate NPOs and coordinate/co-lead due diligences (incl. wet diligence activities) in collaboration with other Research and R&D functions
  • Work with the RTAL and Modality lead to guide the selection of optimal therapeutic modalities against portfolio targets of interest

Collaboration and Networking
  • Foster cross-TA collaboration on relevant pathomechanisms
  • Liaise with Search on scouting focus and support TA search strategy
  • Establish and maintain external partnering and Key Opinion Leader (KOL) networks
  • Identify and liaise with KOLs to build indication-specific advisory groups, organize and conduct scientific advisory boards to review and validate strategic directions (including indication TPPs)
  • Identify and actively manage partnerships with academic institutions, industry experts, and external collaborators.
  • Drive subject matter expert input to support R&D external due diligence activities.
  • Represent the organization at scientific conferences, industry meetings, and advisory boards

Your Profile
  • PhD and/or MD/MBBS with experience and strong track record in basic science and translational research / medicine
  • Minimum of 12+ years of industry or equivalent experience required
  • Demonstration of creating and executing on strategic initiatives
  • Established international networks in rare renal disease
  • Deep pathobiology expertise in rare renal disease
  • Proven track record in managing external relationships and extensive scientific and R&D industry network
  • Strong understanding of the drug development process with proven track record of translating drug targets and drug candidates into clinical development candidates
  • Exceptional leadership and team-building skills with experience working in a matrix organization and the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse group of professionals
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Domestic and international travel
