About the Role:
CrowdStrike's Data Science team is evolving and growing - we are at the cutting edge where Machine Learning, Big Data, and Cybersecurity converge. We are seeking a Senior Director, Data Science to provide visionary leadership and drive strategic impact through advanced machine learning initiatives.
As a Senior Director, you will do more than manage a high-performing technical team - you will act as a bridge between business and technology, translating complex requirements into scalable, high-impact solutions. You'll collaborate deeply across the Data Science & Intelligence (DSCI) organization and with stakeholders across CTO and non-CTO teams to align on enterprise priorities, form strategic alliances, and guide the future direction of data science at CrowdStrike.
Your role will involve continuous alignment with SVPs, EVPs, and ICs alike, requiring top-tier communication skills and an ability to quickly adapt to dynamic business needs. With access to one-of-a-kind cybersecurity datasets - 500 billion behavioral events daily and over 2PB of malware - you'll help shape innovative defenses against sophisticated threats.
This is a highly strategic role requiring not only technical expertise but a strong ability to set vision, define success metrics, and champion the team's wins and needs.
What You'll Do:
- Provide strategic leadership across machine learning projects and initiatives, aligning technical innovation with long-term business objectives.
- Build and foster cross-functional partnerships across DSCI, product, engineering, and executive teams to surface insights and influence priorities.
- Drive vision for future investment areas in AI/ML technologies, proactively identifying emerging trends and opportunities to innovate.
- Define and communicate metrics for success, establishing OKRs that drive accountability, focus, and clarity across the data science function.
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of ML systems to detect and stop the most advanced threats with high precision.
- Inspire and mentor a team of talented data scientists, helping them grow while promoting a culture of innovation, curiosity, and excellence.
- Partner with product and domain experts to improve data fidelity and unlock hidden value in large-scale behavioral and malware datasets.
- Lead innovation in semi-supervised and online learning techniques to enhance detection efficacy while minimizing false positives.
- Oversee efforts to automate and visualize analysis pipelines, ensuring scalable and reproducible workflows.
- A Master's, or Ph.D. in a STEM field with a deep technical foundation in ML and AI domains
- 12+ years of experience in data science, computational research, or machine learning, including leadership of high-impact technical teams.
- Demonstrated success in setting vision, influencing technical direction, and aligning cross-functional teams in dynamic environments.
- Proven experience in large-scale data mining, high-dimensional sparse data, and real-time data processing.
- Deep knowledge of standard ML techniques and the ability to customize and scale them to novel problem domains
- Expertise in Python (preferred), with working knowledge of Rust, R, Scala, or MatLab.
- Proven experience in large-scale data mining, high-dimensional sparse data, and real-time data processing.
- Deep knowledge of standard ML techniques and the ability to customize and scale them to novel problem domains.
- Strong leadership presence with excellent communication skills to engage across all organizational levels - from ICs to C-level executives.
- Familiarity with cloud computing (AWS) and working in distributed Linux-based environments.
- A track record of setting and achieving measurable goals, with the ability to transparently report wins and challenges across the business.
You'll be at the helm of an elite data science team, working with unparalleled datasets and the latest ML technology in a mission-driven organization. Your work will not only define the state-of-the-art in cybersecurity AI but also meaningfully protect customers around the globe from evolving threats.
