Position Overview

Crew member essential to asphalt/milling crew for refilling equipment at work site as instructed by foreperson on highways/private roadways/parking lots/driveway work zones using multi-axle water truck.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
  • Must partner with crew members to make water available on jobsites for refilling equipment as instructed by foreperson to ensure daily schedules/estimates are met
  • Properly follow all company policies and OSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment
  • Perform daily pre-shift inspection followed with submission of a report for any repairs needed
  • Inspection of equipment and safety items required at the end of each shift
  • Properly follow all company policies and OSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environmen t
  • Attendance required according to company attendance policy to ensure crew is able to operate at normal efficiency level
  • Attitude/cooperation: always maintaining courteous and professional manner with co-workers, customers and public.


Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience
  • High school education or GED preferred but not required
  • Must possess Commercial Drivers License and necessary endorsements in accordance with 49 CFR 383.91; combination vehicle (Group A). When hauling certain vehicles, may be required to have hazardous materials and tank endorsements.

Work Requirements
  • Physical ability to operate equipment and transport equipment under temperature extremes and for extended hours of time. Normal shift is 8-12 hours.
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers and supervisors at all times
  • Initiative to perform/assist with other positions for job completion
  • Ability to be flexible with schedule changes, location changes, time of shift changes. Overtime work required. Out of town/county/or state work may be required.
  • Ability to follow Traffic Control Crew instructions and practice safety standards per APAC-Atlantic, Inc. Safety Policy requirements.
  • Ability to assist in flagging operations as needed and instructed.
  • Ability to adhere to PPE (personal protective equipment) policy and maintain individual PPE in a functional condition as supplied by company.
  • May oil, grease, service and make normal operating adjustments to equipment
  • Must meet APAC Driver Qualification Standard.


Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Ability to transport water and operate water truck with attention to detail and emphasis on safety.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal instructions
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as being able to work independently with attention to detail

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Driving water truck and operating equipment associated with heavy highway/commercial work construction and schedules
  • May be required to use power and/or hand tools needed to complete jobs within specifications
  • Must be able to adapt and work in extreme weather temperatures
  • Job requires following motions: climbing, stooping, bending, squatting, stretching, driving, sitting, shifting gears, pulling, lifting, and squatting
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs for repetitious lifting occasionally while using proper lifting techniques.

Work Environment
  • Will be exposed to extremes of heat or cold weather.
