Job summary

Accountable for promoting a zero-harm environment and for the overall EHS&S compliance for the West region of the APG Dry-mix division. The region covers Washington state, Oregon, Colorado, Utah, Arizona & California.

Job Location

  • This position will be based in the West Region in Arizona or Utah, and will require up to 65% travel.


Job Responsibilities

  • Implements procedures and programs to minimize environmental, health and safety (EHS) risks and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Actively participate in senior leadership team in the areas of Operating Plans, Strategic Planning, EHS&S initiatives, internal auditing, management systems, compliance initiatives and governmental/regulatory reporting
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable environment and safety regulations during our operations
  • Manage team of EHS&S professionals both directly and indirectly across the company
  • Develop EHS&S team capabilities, with a view of upgrading knowledge and skills, building succession plans, and ensuring all manufacturing sites have adequate capacity and capabilities to meet required EHS performance standards (including effective training and development systems, processes, and tools)
  • Serve as a key member of the Oldcastle APG Dry-Mix West Region EHS&S leadership team with responsibility for assisting in implementation of ESH&S strategies, policies, standards, compliance, and management initiatives
  • Manage workers' compensation, general liability, and automotive liability cases; manage claims with CRH medical team and coordinate with the insurance provider and legal counsel
  • Ensure proper incident analysis and learning processes are in place and that they are effective toward the achievement of a world-class safety culture
  • Advising and assisting local management in implementing, managing, and auditing within the framework of an innovative EHS Management Systems in a manufacturing setting
  • Assist in standing up sustainability programming and implementing strategies to reduce emissions in operations, reduce water usage and focus on waste reduction
  • Analyze/interpret plant safety metrics to proactively target and eliminate injuries, reduce injury rates, and achieve positive outcomes through the development and execution of solid corrective actions and strategic plans
  • Taking action in shifting our safety culture from rules and regulatory compliance to a safety culture developed as a behavior driven value at all levels of the organization
  • Evolve forums to better foster EHS collaboration and knowledge sharing across facilities
  • Partners with Senior Leadership on potential acquisitions/mergers from the perspective of EHS Compliance issues prior to the acquisition, all the way through integration
  • Coordinate with Regional EHS Director on global APG and CRH initiatives and strategies
  • Other duties and responsibilities related to the nature of the job may be assigned on a temporary or permanent basis as needed

Job Requirements

  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the public always
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required Valid Driver's License
  • Bachelor's Degree in EHS, Science or Engineering related fields or relevant experience 10+ Years in EHS and/or Manufacturing with EHS responsibility
  • Initiative-taking, self-starter who will drive results and take ownership of the company's EHSS performance
  • Experience managing a team of direct and/or indirect reports
  • Proven experience working across multiple sites, influencing various levels of management, and delivering improved performance
  • Excellent communication skills able to reach across the various functional departments to facilitate seamless integration
  • Good business acumen, strategic thinker, flexible, resilient, courageous, and composed under pressure
  • Experience facilitating/leading meetings and planning workshops with both internal departments and leaders of companies being acquired for the purpose of planning and finding solutions to business challenges to align the team
  • Detailed working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Nationally recognized Safety and Health Certifications (ASP, CSP, CIH)
  • County, state & federal EHS'S legislation required not limited to MSHA, ADOSH, OSHA
  • Experience working within a matrixed global organization, leading multi-disciplined, geographically dispersed teams
