This position is responsible for business-critical tasks related to indirect taxes and various areas of compliance including sales and use tax reporting and audits. The Indirect Tax Manager will also lead process improvement activities geared toward creating a sustainable model for ongoing timely and accurate compliance while proactively limiting exposure to risk. This role will oversee one to two tax analysts and will have frequent interaction with all levels of the organization.
Job Responsibilities

The Indirect Tax Manager is responsible for overseeing U.S. indirect tax compliance across Sales and Use Tax, Property Tax, and Unclaimed Property. This role ensures accurate tax determination, reporting, and regulatory adherence through effective collaboration with internal teams and third-party providers.
Sales and Use Tax

  • Lead U.S. indirect tax compliance with a focus on sales and use tax, utilizing Avalara integrated with multiple ERPs, primarily SAP S4/Hana.
  • Manage Avalara configuration and maintenance to ensure accurate tax calculation and reporting.
  • Serve as a primary tax liaison for an SAP ERP implementation, ensuring seamless integration with Avalara.
  • Oversee sales and use tax audits, including documentation coordination and communication with tax authorities.
  • Provide tax guidance and training to business units regarding transaction implications.
  • Reconcile tax accounts and support internal reporting and audit requirements.
  • Administer exemption certificate compliance through Avalara ECMPro.
  • Review and approve all third-party prepared sales and use tax returns.
  • Support future expansion into Canadian and Mexican tax jurisdictions.
Property Tax
  • Act as the primary liaison with third-party property tax providers for compliance, filings, appeals, and audits.
  • Prepare and reconcile property tax schedules for all locations and coordinate timely filings.
  • Ensure timely remittance of property tax payments with appropriate accounting treatment.
  • Monitor statutory deadlines and confirm compliance with jurisdictional requirements.
  • Review and validate appeals, settlements, and payments recommended by third-party providers.
Unclaimed Property
  • Oversee the company's unclaimed property compliance, including tracking and reporting of dormant assets.
  • Manage the escheatment process to ensure timely and accurate filings in accordance with state laws.
  • Respond to inquiries, notices, and audit requests from state and local authorities.
  • Maintain and update policies and procedures related to unclaimed property compliance.
Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree required (concentration in Finance or Accounting preferred)
  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in Sales & Use Tax compliance
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Suite products
  • Experience with a business tax engine such as Avalara
