Position Overview
As the Asphalt Plant Manager, you will be responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of the site, including but not limited to the hot mix asphalt plant and recycling activities. This includes safety, customer service, supervision, quality assurance and environmental compliance.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Ensure that company safety procedures and policies are adhered to by all plant personnel.
- Coordinate asphalt plant activity.
- Communicate daily with various people to determine workload and to facilitate scheduling of liquids, aggregate, and plant start up.
- Coordinate with paving, the hourly production needs and trucking adjustments.
- Coordinate with quality control personnel, mix design changes and feeder variations
- Customer service to both internal and external customers
- Complete command of the automated control system, including data entry and the ability to interpret data on screen.
- Inspect and perform maintenance on the plant.
- Supervise and direct other plant personnel and general interaction with other staff and managers.
- Identify and resolve regulatory, safety, personnel, and production problems, either directly or indirectly, in a timely and effective manner.
- Study and follow all applicable regulations affecting asphalt plant production, safety, environmental, state, federal and company policies; ensure observance of such regulations; and ensure compliance with all regulations and permit conditions.
- Ensure the workplace is kept in a neat, clean, tidy and safe condition. This includes the plant, office, storage areas, and yard.
- Perform tasks related to storage, inspection, handling, transportation, clean-up of hazardous materials and hazardous wastes according to regulations as required.
- Ability to detect safety hazards and malfunctions and respond accordingly.
- Perform and/or supervise welding, fabrication, and electrical duties as required.
- Shift between the different asphalt plant locations as needed.
- Regular and timely attendance

Qualifications
Education/Experience
- Experience in the operation and maintenance of Hot Mix Asphalt plants.
- Strong customer service skills required.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Diagnostic, troubleshooting and mechanical skills are an essential requirement.
- Ability to lead, manage and develop employees effectively.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Highly detail-oriented, organized, and self-motivated
- Effective communication skills, including presentation skills and people skills
- Ability to think creatively to find solutions to both routine and complex construction problems and continue to push the project forward.
- Experience with government contracts is highly desired
- Excellent written and verbal skills, strong interpersonal skills and ability to diplomatically handle challenging situations.
General Requirements
- Mobility to attend various meetings and events at off-site locations
- Hours are extended throughout the year to include nights and weekends when necessary
- Travel may be required
