Job Summary

A Freight captain is a member of the Oldcastle Lawn & Garden Southeast team responsible for supporting the sites assigned in their territory. They provide training and support to dispatch and Shipping and Receiving teams. They also oversee and are responsible for overall shipping data management related to the KPIs for logistics.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist with training and support for dispatchers and Shipping/Receiving clerks
  • Attend bi-weekly ship well call with leadership team
  • Lead call in Transportation Managers' absence
  • Assist with EDI registration
  • Ensure loads are getting to the correct warehouse based on items ordered
  • Oversee load planning process
  • Maintain copacker relationships and communication regarding inventory levels and shipping
  • Manage and analyze transportation expenses
  • Assist with annual carrier meetings
  • Assist with rate negotiations
  • Approve higher rates when applicable
  • Review Open Order Report, Freight Operations Report and Freight Optimizer daily and respond accordingly
  • Maintain Northeast 3 Day Report responses
  • Work company projects assigned by management
  • Work closely with Customer Service and Operations to understand product availability, logistics issues and customer requirements
  • Investigate/Research billing and claims issues
  • Plan and host annual dispatch meeting with Transportation Manager
