Position Overview
The Controller is a key member of the leadership team, responsible for overseeing all financial and accounting operations within Coastal Group. This role ensures the integrity of financial reporting, compliance with internal controls and external regulations, and provides strategic financial guidance to support business objectives.
The Controller leads a team of finance professionals and collaborates closely with operational leaders to drive performance, manage risk, and support growth initiatives. This position requires a hands-on leader with strong technical accounting expertise, business acumen, and the ability to communicate financial insights effectively across all levels of the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supports the finance teams including the accounting staff, accounts receivable, payroll, procurement and material sales day-to-day activities
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting to the finance team.
- Ensure adequate controls are installed and maintained to safeguard the financial assets of the group. This includes all Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) regulations, AMAT and South Division accounting policies and procedures.
- Coordinate all requests/documentation related to external and internal audits.
- Work with President and senior management on financial analysis and board proposals for potential acquisitions and major CAPEX requests.
- Review balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis to ensure all balances are reconciled properly with supporting backup.
- Lead and/or assist on completing budgets and reforecasts for the Coastal Group.
- Manage the Coastal Division roll-up of month end flash/close as well as support the finance team in month end flash / close.
- Work with President and senior management on the strategic plan.
- Review USGAAP schedules quarterly for completeness and accuracy prior to submission to Atlanta.
- Review financial statements and explain variances on queries as necessary.
- Recommend and/or assist new efforts to improve management and financial performance at both the Op Co and Group level.
- Provide solid leadership and support AMAT's talent management initiatives through succession planning and professional development of the accounting personnel within the organization.
- Participate in key decisions as a member of the executive management team.
- Maintain good working relations with managers from all lines of business.
- Work on ad hoc projects as directed.

- Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
- Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.

Supervisor Responsibilities
- Assist with interviewing and hiring process as necessary.

- Willingness to develop subordinates' technical and leadership skills and make recommendations for new job opportunities when appropriate.
- Effective management of employee performance through coaching, feedback (written and verbal), rewards, and discipline when necessary.
- Appraising performance, including annual evaluations and new employee 30-60-90-day evaluations.
- Addressing complaints and resolving problems in a timely manner.
- Lead by example.
- Ability to get work done through others using effective delegation, scheduling, and time management practices.
Qualifications
Education/Experience
- BS degree in Accounting, Finance or Business, plus 5+ years of relevant financial management experience. Experience in construction accounting is highly preferred.
- CPA and/or MBA preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of financial accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting principles, methods, techniques, standards and metrics.
- Strong financial analysis capabilities, including discounted cash flow modeling and analysis.
- Skill in examining and establishing proper financial operations and procedures.
- Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
- Strong business and strategic leadership abilities.
- Ability to translate business objectives into actionable, measurable initiatives.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
Work Requirements
- Strong values and high standards of ethics, integrity, and trust.
- Business acumen in construction operations, manufacturing, and/or distribution.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and correspondence.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to communicate problems clearly and concisely by collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions. Ability to interpret and follow an extensive variety of technical instructions.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Must demonstrate the ability to use a computer to communicate and analyze data. This includes but is not limited to the use of Outlook, MS Office programs, Hyperion financial software and other web-based programs.
