Cessford Construction Company, a CRH company, is a supplier of construction materials servicing Central Iowa, Southeast Iowa and West Central Illinois. Position Overview

The Area Manager is responsible for personnel and daily operations of multiple aggregate pits including but not limited to safety, hiring, training, coaching and discipline of employees, production efficiencies, quality control, inventory and adhering to environmental and local rules and regulations.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures as well as in full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations including OSHA, MSHA, etc.
  • Works with Operations Manager, HR, Plant Managers and/or Safety Department to interview, hire, manage, train, coach, engage, evaluate and coach employees.
  • Provide proactive leadership to ensure the safety culture of the company continues to grow by always promoting safe production.
  • Ensures that all processes and equipment meet or exceed MNSHA, OSHA and CRH safety guidelines. Continuously pursues a culture of Safety and actively engages employees to reinforce safe behaviors.
  • Maintain quality assurance of the plant as required.
  • Control expenditures and maximize profits for the plant, region, and company.
  • Control and maintain inventory levels. Oversee foreman, employees and general work at aggregate locations and job sites.
  • Lead or participate in weekly plant safety meetings and weekly management team meetings. Assist with accident and environmental investigation and compliance.
  • Complete all the paperwork and reports required by the company in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education/Experience
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; and two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in the operation of aggregate mining and/or other directly related industry experience preferred.
  • Limestone Production experience preferred.


Work Requirements
  • Must be 18 years old or older.
  • Must pass pre- employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee and Safety Policy Manuals/Handbooks.
  • Regular, on-time and consistent attendance is required and must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required (50% of the time) and must be willing to travel to other locations frequently within the workday.


Knowledge/Skill Requirements
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft suite of tools including Excel, Word and Outlook, and database software. Must be able to utilize internet and communicate effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to train, motive and lead employees.
  • Basic knowledge of labor and employment laws.
  • Demonstrate basic mathematical skills as well as the ability to interpret financial data and information.
  • Willingness and ability to work in and adapt to changes in circumstances, tasks, customer needs and other conditions that may affect their daily responsibilities.
  • Ability to cope well in stressful environments and communicate professionally.
  • Demonstrate a strong dedication to meeting the needs and expectations of our internal and external customers.
  • Willingness to work independently & within a team environment and assist the team with other duties as required.
  • Ability to facilitate change management and influence positive responses.
  • Effective interpersonal skills; building rapport, listening, presenting, giving, and receiving feedback.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Able to communicate with others by email, telephone and in person. Able to utilize a computer or for word processing, email communication, and preparation of documents and presentations.
  • Able to regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to frequently walk and sit as well as occasionally required to stand, reach, and climb stairs and ladders.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
Work Environment

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. A variety of noise levels, adverse weather conditions, and complex job sites are to be expected daily. Proper clothing, PPE (personal protective equipment), and safety precautions should be taken to ensure your safety, and the safety of others in all conditions. While performing non-field duties of this position, the environment is typical of an office setting, and the noise level is usually quiet to moderate.
