As Principal Architect, you will join the senior architecture team at Credit Karma and play a critical role in designing the end-to-end architecture, technical strategy, and roadmap of Credit Karma’s Personal Finance Platform - reusable foundational capabilities that will power CK’s ecosystem of products.  You will collaborate across all engineering teams and product development organizations, and be a trusted advisor to senior and executive leadership.

  • Drive a holistic architectural and technical strategy across a number of interdependent engineering teams, architects, systems and offerings.
  • Partner closely with senior product leadership to continuously connect business outcomes to platform technical strategy
  • Drive system and platform thinking within development teams
  • Influence and shape the frameworks, abstractions, and patterns used by product development teams.
  • Be the technical expert, researching, evaluating, and implementing state-of-the-art technology (open source, third party)
  • Apply strong technical documentation and presentation skills to communicate architectural and design options at all levels, including to executive leadership.
  • Act as an industry thought leader, continuing to share Intuit’s growth story as one of the top SaaS, data-driven, and cloud deployed companies on the web
  • Grow a strong engineering culture - set and evangelize vision, facilitative leadership, attract and retain key talent. Talent steward for the engineering organization, mentor rising leaders

A typical day will include activities like the following:

  • Developing and communicating an architectural vision, strategy, and roadmap for the capabilities you own
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions
  • Collaborating with the architecture team to ensure those technical solutions are scalable, reliable, and secure 
  • Collaborating across the organization to align technical strategy and to ensure interoperability of systems
  • Evaluating and selecting best fit technologies, frameworks, and tools to support the Credit Karma’s goals
  • Drive the adoption of best practices, standards, and architectural principles across Credit Karma
  • Mentoring and growing architects and engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning
  • Leading architectural reviews and providing recommendations for improvement
  • Studying emerging technologies, industry trends, and advancements in software architecture and in fintech
  • Engaging with external partners, vendors, and industry experts to develop and execute a holistic strategy

What we are looking for:

  • 10+ years’ experience designing and leading large architectural efforts for web or mobile applications, including hands-on contributions to complex distributed code bases.
  • Experience in driving business and technology strategies and multi-year roadmaps with an execution scope of 50-100+ engineers.
  • Broad expertise with modern technology stacks and architectural patterns including API design, microservices, cloud and networking architectures, and modern online and offline data processing techniques
  • Experience designing and building for scale, resilience and operational excellence
  • Excellent communication skills: demonstrated ability to present to all levels of leadership, including executives 
  • Seasoned and ambidextrous leadership - able to balance short and long term goals, inspire and coach
  • Expertise in Agile Development, SCRUM, or Extreme Programming methodologies
  • BS/MS in computer science, or equivalent work experience

Pay Transparency Notice: Credit Karma’s mission of championing financial progress for all starts from within. That’s why we implemented role-based compensation, which ensures people who are in the same role receive the same pay with variations for geographic location only. It’s all part of a more comprehensive DEI strategy that helps level the playing field. The base salary for this role is $388,000 - $429,042, plus equity and benefits.
