Senior Director, Engineering

Cornerstone OnDemand is seeking a hands-on and strategic Senior Director of Cloud Engineering to lead our global Cloud & Automation team. As a key member of the Engineering leadership team, you will drive the modernization of our SaaS platform, delivering intelligent automation, AI-powered observability, and highly scalable infrastructure across AWS and GCP. You'll lead the transformation of legacy monolithic systems into modern, service-based architectures while building a high-performing, diverse engineering team. This role requires strong technical expertise, people leadership, and the ability to influence across teams in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

In this role you will...

• Lead the strategy and execution of cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, and CI/CD automation across hybrid environments (AWS/GCP).
• Drive modernization of legacy applications into scalable, service-based and cloud-native architectures.
• Provide technical leadership in OOP programming using Java, .NET, Python and Groovy.
• Define and enforce engineering best practices, coding standards, design principles, and agile delivery models.
• Build, mentor, and scale hybrid teams of engineers and technical leaders across geographies.
• Collaborate with product, security, and operations teams to deliver highly available, secure, and performant cloud platforms.
• Own the architecture and delivery of CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitOps, and infrastructure-as-code tools.
• Support RDBMS technologies (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL) and integration in distributed cloud environments.
• Conduct regular 1:1s, support goal setting, unblock team members, and build a culture of technical excellence.
• Act as a point of contact for stakeholders; drive alignment between engineering initiatives and product roadmaps.

• 10-15+ years in software/cloud engineering, with 5+ years leading large teams and engineering managers.
• Proven hands-on expertise with AWS, GCP, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation tools.
• Strong programming background in Java, .NET, Python, Groovy, and object-oriented design.
• Deep hands-on experience with key AWS services like EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, CloudFormation/Terraform.
• Demonstrated experience modernizing monolithic systems into microservices or service-based architectures.
• Hands-on with Terraform, AWS CloudFormation to manage and version infrastructure.
• Ability to design modular, reusable infrastructure components across environments.
• Deep understanding of cloud-native practices, security, and observability tooling.
• Experience with relational databases: SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL.
• Strong time management, communication, and cross-functional leadership skills.
• Master's degree in computer science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
