Summary:
We are searching for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant who is motivated to work in an exciting, outpatient Pediatric Neurosurgery setting.
In this position, you will practice in an advanced role to provide developmentally appropriate, comprehensive care for children with a myriad of neurosurgical conditions. You will work collaboratively with our Neurosciences team, as well as other members of the child's healthcare team. You will practice under established clinical protocols and guidelines. You will independently assess, diagnose and initiate or continue treatment, as appropriate.

This is a primarily outpatient setting, working with our Neurosurgery team.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Provide medical services that are within the education and training of the APP.
- Practice within the scope of practice and delegation of the supervising physician.
- • btain a comprehensive, pertinent history on patients and document appropriately in the patient's medical record.
- Differentiate between normal and abnormal findings and document them appropriately in the patient's medical record.
- Prescribe, continue or administer medications as delegated by the supervising physician and document appropriately in the medical record.
- • rder diagnostic tests consistent with differential diagnoses, as appropriate, and interpret those results, in keeping with your education and training.
- Foster collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to improve health care.
- Establish a relationship with the family, in keeping with Cook Children's Promise- "Knowing every child's life is sacred, we promise to improve the well-being of every child in our care and our communities."
- Maintain compliance with Cook Children's education, compliance, occupational health and safety standards.
Education and Experience
Advanced Practice Registered Nurses
Master's Degree in Nursing as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and minimum 1 year of pediatric nursing experience or related specialized area strongly preferred.
Physician Assistants
Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies and minimum 1 year of experience in related specialized area strongly preferred.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification
Advanced Practice Registered Nurses
- Current Texas professional registered nurse license
- Current Texas professional advanced practice registered nurse license
- Certified as an RNFA preferred
- Certified as a Family or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
- Current Basic Life Support (CPR) is required.
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is required.
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required when assigned to Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery
- Pediatric nurse practitioner acute care certification required when assigned to Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurosurgery and Pediatric Surgery/Trauma
Physician Assistants
- Current Texas professional physician assistant license.
- Certified as a PA-C
- Current Basic Life Support (CPR) required.
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required.
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required when assigned to Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery
