Summary:
The Medical Assistant will function in collaborative practice with physician(s) and/or advanced practice provider(s) in an ambulatory care setting. Assists in the preparation and delivery of ambulatory patient care as directed by provider(s) and other licensed clinical personnel. Skillfully and consistently performs clinical duties per established departmental policies and procedures. The care is based on the nursing process and augments the medical plan of treatment appropriate to the ambulatory care setting with an emphasis on good customer relations.
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma required.
- Either a graduate of an accredited MA school OR a current MA certification required.
- • rthopedic experience preferred.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification:
- Current BLS Certification required.
- National certification preferred.
Location:
- Travel is required (Mansfield location and Fort Worth location)
Essential Job Functions [EF]
1. Performs appropriate initial patient assessment, including applicable vital signs, height, weight, blood pressure. Prepares patient for provider examination. Communicates abnormal findings to licensed personnel.
2. Properly and consistently documents all pertinent patient and family information in the medical record, consistently dating and signing (with credentials) each entry.
3. Implements provider's orders in accordance with practice and CCPN policies and standards. May occasionally assist with patient holds during radiology examinations.
4. Skillfully performs casting application and removal procedures with minimal supervision, using patient safety precautions, safe and proper technique and appropriate documentation. Provides training to unlicensed clinical staff on casting application/removal.
5. Transcribes voice mail messages, seeks appropriate physician guidance, and returns calls per written provider instruction. Documents and refers to licensed personnel, physician/practitioner appropriately.
6. Provides patient and family instruction, including questions regarding aftercare, follow-up, treatments, procedures, medications, & equipment as directed by providers.

1. Coordinates referrals, inclusive of pre-certification, authorizations, patient instruction, scheduling and documentation. Coordinates patient scheduling with provider standards, rearranging appointments to avoid non-productivity.
2. Prepares, stocks, and maintains examination/treatment room equipment and supplies. Informs appropriate personnel of inventory needs. Assists practice staff with preparation of medical records and educational packets, and general office duties as needed.
3. Demonstrates knowledge of compliance standards for all regulatory agencies, including OSHA, TDH and HIPAA. In absence of licensed nursing staff, may perform the duties of Safety Officer, as supervised by physician/provider.
4. Requirement to be able to travel to all six orthopedic locations
