Position Summary

The Director, Packaging Engineer will be responsible for the packaging engineering strategy of our brewery operations. Must have a strategic focus and anticipate potential business changes. Builds strong relationships with local leadership and continuously engages the business. Leads innovation and change. Collaborates across boundaries and scales and invests in new ideas. Design expertise of bottle and can fillers, seamers, crowners, pasteurizers, drop packers, side load packers, box making equipment palletizers, depalletizes, labelers, empty and full container inspection systems.

Responsibilities

  • Strategizes and collaborates with Sr Engineering management to lead teams, develop scopes, define costs and schedules related to new CBI capital initiatives.
  • Develops funding material and justification for executive board review and funding.
  • Responsible for project implementation in the range of $150- 200 million USD annually. Provides daily financial decisions with signature authority of 500,000 USD.
  • Directs and leads in the design, layout, and master planning of multiple packaging lines.
  • Leads and manages on-site field engineers, OEM contractors, site project managers, and contractor.
  • Manages and implements multiple aspects of design, implementation and start up for multiple brewery locations.
  • Responsible for budgets, scheduling, quality assurance, and safety on the job site and required to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, relevant building codes and laws.
  • Manages the advancement and deployment of specific disciplines and technologies.
  • Proactively assesses and anticipates CBI's future needs and develops engineering processes.
  • Leads and implements the global packaging direction and changes at multiple brewery locations.
  • Coaches and mentors direct reports and extended team in technical capabilities and career aspirations.
  • Empower and challenge team members to achieve challenging goals.
  • Creates global programs to ensure consistency and best practices for packaging at breweries.
  • Contributes towards directing the best packaging engineering practices to achieve Beer Division objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively organize and manage multiple tasks as projects, ensuring completion to meet deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 15-20 years' work experience in packaging engineering.
  • Experience in the beverage sector, or related consumer products business.
  • 10+ years of supervisory/managerial experience, leading engineers, etc.
  • Vast understanding of the consumer packaging process, including filling technology, palletizing, conveying product.
  • Experience with "Greenfield" or new line installation.
  • Experience conveying controls and best practices.
  • Knowledge of packaging installation standards.
  • Knowledge of installation codes and related design conditions.
  • Knowledge of packaging quality standards and codes.
  • Strong technical engineering skills combined with excellent management capabilities.
  • Strong collaboration skills; internally and externally.
  • Willing to travel to the US and/or Mexico (50% est)

  • Bilingual English and Spanish

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

  • Physical Requirements: The employee frequently is required to sit, talk or listen and drive long distances. The employee is occasionally required to stand; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. Frequent walking, including going up and down stairs and ladders, and bending are required. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 55 pounds.
  • Work Environment: Working conditions in certain areas are cold, wet, slippery and noisy. Involves exposure to hazardous conditions.
  • Travel Required: 50%, including domestic and international travel.

The salary range for this role is:
$119,100.00 - $190,300.00

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee's pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, the prevailing minimum wage for the location, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, any collective bargaining agreements, and business or organizational needs.
