A role you will love
We are looking for a Technical Lead who specialises in messaging technologies to take ownership of the strategy, architecture, and delivery of our global enterprise messaging platforms.
In this leadership-focused role, you'll guide the design, deployment, and ongoing improvement of messaging services, ensuring they are secure, resilient, and aligned with the needs of our global workforce. This role combines technical authority with leadership: you'll mentor engineers, define best practices, drive automation, and influence the roadmap for messaging services used by thousands of colleagues worldwide.
If you thrive on solving complex hybrid messaging challenges, shaping enterprise-scale platforms, and leading by example, this role is for you.
Key responsibilities include:
• Technical Strategy & Architecture: Lead the technical roadmap for email and messaging platforms.
• Exchange Platform Ownership: Administer and continually optimise the Exchange environments - both cloud and on-prem.
• Email Security: Serve as the subject matter expert for email security. Manage and tune the Proofpoint email gateway cluster - updating spam filtering rules, digest settings, and addressing any mail flow issues through the gateway.
• Mentoring and Governance: Provide 3rd line support, guidance, and mentoring to the messaging engineer pool (in UK, US, and AU). Review and approve changes proposed by engineers to ensure they meet best practices and have properly assessed risk.
What will you bring to the role
As an EUC Technical Lead, you will have deep expertise in messaging technologies, and will have operated at a senior engineer or architect level in previous roles. We're looking for someone with an innovative mindset, a user-centric approach, and excellent leadership skills. You will be a supportive and empowering leader and mentor for the team.
Key skills required:
• Expert-Level Exchange Knowledge: Extensive experience administering Exchange Server (2016/2019/SE) and Exchange Online in a large (thousands of mailboxes) environment. Must be intimately familiar with hybrid configurations, mail flow topology (Edge servers, MTAs, connectors, firewall rules for SMTP), and Exchange high-availability concepts (DAGs, database copies).
• Automation and Scripting: Proficiency in PowerShell is a must-have, given Exchange and Azure administration's reliance on it.
• Microsoft 365 Ecosystem: In addition to Exchange, a strong understanding of the broader Microsoft 365 ecosystem
• Security & Compliance Expertise: Experience implementing or managing email security solutions in the past - e.g., administrating a Secure Email Gateway (Proofpoint, etc.) and/or Microsoft Defender policies.
