The Foundational Infrastructure team is a mission-critical team within Compass’ Technology Infrastructure organization and is responsible for administering infrastructure and building software that the rest of Compass depends on. Our mission is to build the tools and systems that enable product engineering teams to easily develop, deploy, and monitor their software. We manage the core components Compass is built upon including the networking, gateway, kubernetes and infrastructure-as-code layers. Infrastructure at scale is complex, our job is to simplify and automate.

We are looking for experienced engineers who want to be a part of a fast-paced, startup-like environment and build a next-generation technology platform for the real estate industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic direction and ownership of the Compass network architecture. 
  • Ownership of our service-to-service communication protocols. 
  • Automate infrastructure maintenance by building control plane and self-service tooling
  • Create best-in-class tools for service teams to monitor their applications’ performance and availability
  • Create automation which enforces best practices
  • Document infrastructure design, implementation, and maintenance processes.
  • Responsible for tier-1 infrastructure, requiring high-availability and resiliency from failure
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to Kubernetes, networking, infrastructure as code and associated components.
  • Administer and maintain Kubernetes clusters, network architecture, service gateway and associated core platform infrastructure components.
  • Monitor and optimize the performance of our applications on Kubernetes.

Requirements:

  • BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years of software development experience, and preferably proficient with at least one of our programming languages (Golang, Python, Java)
  • Strong Networking experience, primarily in cloud based (AWS) networking, load balancing, API gateway, haproxy, nginx, EKS Networking and Ingress controllers, etc.. 
  • Experience with gRPC, Thrift, and other server-to-server communication protocols. 
  • 3+ years using AWS / cloud technologies
  • High proficiency designing and implementing microservices and automation scripting
  • Experience provisioning and managing Kubernetes using AWS EKS
  • High proficiency working with Scrum/Agile development methodologies
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills

Nice to haves:

  • Experience with networking technologies (DNS, HTTP, AWS Networking) is a plus
  • Experience with Terraform is a plus
  • Experience managing/administering microservice architectures is a plus

Compensation: The base pay range for this position is $152,100.00 -$228,200 annually; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Bonuses and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of benefits. Base pay is based on market location. Minimum wage for the position will always be met.
