The Air Combat Test & Training (ACTT) Department within Mission Systems strives to improve training capability and realism so that U.S. warfighters and international partners can "train like you fight." The ACTT engineering team develops state-of-the-art products for cryptographic, datalink, networking, and command and control applications supporting threat and weapon simulations and we are looking for a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer to join our team! We specialize in the development and integration of high quality, highly secure, complex solutions for military communication systems, navigation systems, and networks to enable a Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) training environment. We design and develop secure Air Combat Maneuvering Instrumentation (ACMI) systems and mature them from the concept phase through accreditation, factory production, and installation This position is located onsite in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. - Build strong relationships and effectively influence and communicate with team members and internal and external customers.
- Manage the technical performance of a large rapid prototyping project team.
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact with customer counterparts, critical suppliers, and internal value stream/program management and engineering leadership.
- Coordinate and perform analyses and trade studies.
- Lead preparation of bids, technical proposals, and detailed execution plans
- Estimate, track, and communicate cost, schedule, and risk in support of program earned value metrics.
- Lead and mentor in a flexible, collaborative Agile development environment
- Manage multiple competing tasks while balancing priorities.
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and 10 years of prior relevant experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required.
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
- Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.
- Must be able to travel up to 10%
- Demonstrated experience leading the development of complex systems as Program Chief, Technical Project Manager (TPM), Systems Architect, Systems Lead, or Project Engineer
- Proven exceptional communication skills and the ability to persuade and motivate.
- Experience with the creation of technical proposals and cost estimates during the bid and proposal phase
- Experience working with customers to define contract scope and requirements.
- Experience leading bid and proposal activities
- Experience with integration, test, and deployment of complex systems
- Experience leading in an Agile and/or DevSecOps environment.
- Advanced degree in STEM or Management/Master of Business Administration (MBA)
- Preferred applicants will currently hold a DoD Secret (or above) security clearance.
- Background and/or knowledge of the following technologies is helpful but not required:
- Tactical datalink radio systems
- GPS and inertial navigation systems
- Multiple Independent Levels of Security (MILS) encryption
- MIL-STD-1553 or Fibre Channel aircraft data buses
- Ethernet networking
