The Simulation and Training Solutions group is looking for a skilled Principal Mechanical Engineering professional to join our team in Sterling, VA! You will participate in the development, modification, integration, and testing of aircraft and ground vehicle training simulators for military and commercial applications. Our devices range in complexity from simple desktop trainers to high-fidelity full flight training systems. You will work on both clean-sheet and design reuse projects, creating mechanical equipment facsimiles, I/O packaging, standard electronics cabinets, and custom mechanical support structures and enclosures. Experience with traditional sheet metal fabrication, machined parts, and weldments is a must, and additive methods are sometimes used for prototype parts. - Established Leader of design, analysis, integration, testing , and documenting mechanical hardware of advanced complexity.
- Lead design efforts and teams, to include mentoring of junior engineers.
- Lead hardware engineering requirements capture, analysis and creation for advanced complexity components of mechanical designs.
- Work closely with other engineering disciplines (e.g., Mechanical, Software and Systems Engineering) to ensure that mechanical design is appropriate for the project/product design approach.
- Lead cross-functional team efforts in integration and test of completed designs and sub-systems.
- Champion the appropriate processes and tools during development of hardware. Drive improvement to processes and tools where applicable.
- Drive design and team decisions in day-to-day job responsibilities.
- Report and manage status relating to technical performance, cost, and schedule for assigned scope of work.
- Present design and project material for customer reviews and meetings.
- The work associated with this position will be performed onsite.
- Travel as necessary to customer sites for information gathering, installation and test of end-product. Up to 15%
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.
- Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
- Experience with technical design documentation such as mechanical assemblies, fabrication drawings, parts lists, weldments, and installation drawings
- Experience with traditional sheet metal fabrication, machined parts, and weldments is a must.
- Experience with SolidWorks Software Computer Aided Design (CAD)
- Proficient with Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools for 3D modeling, part, and assembly drawings
- Proficient utilizing MS Office Applications / Office 365
- Experience with AutoCAD Software is a preferred.
- Training Simulator Engineering design experience is desired.
- Ability to quickly change focus between high level concepts and low-level details.
- Self-motivated, able to organize, manage, and complete assignments on time.
- A well-developed habit of verifying work for accuracy prior to submission for review by others.
- Ability to clearly communicate with co-workers and customers both written and verbally.
- Candidate with active and transferrable Secret Security Clearance or higher is preferred.
