While many roles at Coinbase are remote-first, we are not remote-only. In-person participation is required throughout the year. Team and company-wide offsites are held multiple times annually to foster collaboration, connection, and alignment. Attendance is expected and fully supported.
The Head of Client Assets will be responsible for the safeguarding and segregation of client assets in compliance with regulatory requirements. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the proper safekeeping of assets, overseeing daily safeguarding operations and reconciliations, and managing CSSF reporting obligations. You will play a key role in audits, preparing management information for the Audit, Risk, and Compliance Committee, and delivering training on safeguarding protocols.
What you'll be doing (ie. job duties):
- Monitor and ensure that Coinbase Luxembourg's client assets in the omnibus vault are properly segregated from firm-owned assets and reflected in appropriately as safeguarded accounts on separate wallet and blockchain addresses
- Ensure accurate record maintenance and reconciliation of Coinbase Luxembourg's local entity ledger with comprehensive register of positions for each individual clients including all crypto asset movements and transactions
- Monitor, oversee, and implement appropriate management controls are in place for corporate collateral held in Coinbase Luxembourg client omnibus vaults to ensure full value of client assets maintained at all times in the local vaults
- Monitor, oversee, and implement appropriate management controls are in place for segregated vaults for prime institutional clients' assets for custodial and staking purposes
- Oversee coordination with Coinbase Inc wallet team to ensure appropriate credit supported crypto deposits by clients into their Coinbase Luxembourg account to the correct user account
- Monitor and oversee retail order management processes including execution monitoring and support
- Monitor the proper maintaining of records of all client asset positions, ownership rights, and safekeeping by third parties for regulatory mandated periods
- Manage transfer and venue kill switches for prime institutional clients
- On-going management of the CB Lux Client Asset Safeguarding Organisational arrangements documentation, including ensuring all policies and procedures are in place and effective at all times
- Development, implementation and on-going oversight of Safeguarding Control Framework
- Maintain CB Lux client asset incident log, and act as the Direct Responsible Individual for escalation and reporting of safeguarding incidents internally and externally (ie regulatory reporting)
- Preparation of client asset regulatory reporting
- Leading periodic internal and external audit examinations of legal entity client asset arrangements (if external audits are required in Lux (they are mandatory annually for trade Client Asset firms under MIFIDII)
What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field from an accredited institution
- 5+ years of experience in finance, treasury, accounting, or operations, preferably with a proven experience in a similar role within an Electronic Money Institution, Payment Institution, or regulated financial services firm
- Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks, including Luxembourg's financial regulations, PSRs, EMRs, AML/CFT legislation, and EU directives on digital assets and data protection.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of business functions, with an emphasis on senior management.
- Demonstrated ability to generate and execute strategies across a global organisation.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to implement practical and efficient solutions
- Fluency in English is essential; French is a plus
- Must be based in Luxembourg
