Job Summary
The Supervisor, Customs Brokerage is management position is responsible for the day-to-day operations, revenue, and expense budget for CN's Canadian brokerage operations. The role is accountable for onboarding customers, managing the junior and customs analysts, putting in place and executing on proper metrics, as well as interacting with CN, external carriers and suppliers. Furthermore, the position handles the communication with trucking carriers, port agents, customer audit with Canada Customs and claims. The position ensures CN Rail, Customs Brokerage, and WorldWide as well as CNTL are compliant with Canadian Government import and export requirements and that the brokerage license is current and protected. Moreover, the position oversees the brokerage systems to ensure they are up to date and leads Canada Customs new single window initiative and its implementation.
Main Responsibilities
Operational, Revenue, and Expense
• Identify, develop, and implement solutions for immediate operational issues and recurring operational issues
• Perform daily audits on time to ensure compliance and penalty avoidance
• Oversee duties and taxes payable by the brokerage to the Government
• Handle customer expectations to what has been sold
• Onboard new customers
• Establish and execute on proper metrics (e.g., on-time clearance, dwells at the border)
• Enable and train staff to run their accounts
• Know and cross-train staff in all functions of Brokerage operations
Problem Solving and Decision Making
• Maintain teamwork and order amongst staff, third-party suppliers, and internal clients
• Oversee customs analyst and analyst work schedule ensuring that each shift is utilized to capacity
• Develop and execute corrective action plans for service failures
Establish and Maintain Operational Relationships
• Understand and coordinate with various departments all over Canada and the United States (U.S.) requiring coordinating across time zones and availability outside normal office hours as needed.
• Set up and coordinate with external suppliers (e.g., Port Agents, Truckers, third-party warehouses)
• Coordinate with internal suppliers (e.g., CNTL, Intermodal Customer Service Representatives (CSR), Transload Group, eBusiness and Transaction Centre (ETC), Information and Technology (I&T)
Working Conditions
The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular work week from Monday to Friday. The role works in a 24/7 operations environment, including weekend and after-hour functions. The incumbent must be available to work shifts and weekends when necessary. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and stress.
Requirements
Experience
Customs Brokerage
• Between 3 to 5 years of operational experience in customs brokerage and the transportation industry
o Experience in all modes, products and executing multimodal services
o Experience leading a complex customs brokerage and logistics team
o Experience working in an international execution environment
Education/Certification/Designation
• Licensed Customs Broker
• Certified Customs Specialist (CCS)
• Bachelor's Degree in logistics or equivalent
Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset

• Knowledge of trucking, rail, warehousing, ocean and barge shipping, Less-than-Truckload (LTL) and Less-than-Container Load (LCL)
