Job Summary

The Senior Manager, Mechanical - Locomotive Program leads the development and execution of innovative procurement strategies that deliver sustainable enterprise value and directly support CN's strategic objectives. This role oversees a team managing CN's procurement activities related to locomotives, with a focus on two main accounts: Wabtec and PRL. The incumbent plays a key role in effective collaboration with the diverse business functions and external suppliers to achieve organizational goals. Additionally, the role is responsible for shaping long-term procurement strategies, assessing market impacts, minimizing supply chain risks, and aligning procurement initiatives with business priorities. The position also contributes to the development and coaching of Procurement Specialists, fostering the growth of high-performing talent and building the next generation of leadership. The incumbent will support the development and execution of procurement strategies for the "locomotive of the future."

Main Responsibilities

• Manage the commercial relationship between CN, Wabtec and PRL, including contract negotiation, contract management, project follow-up, and claims.

• Establish procurement objectives, KPIs, and supplier management strategies for key locomotive suppliers Wabtec and PRL.

• Build and reinforce governance frameworks and robust processes with these suppliers, including effective dashboards.

• Participate in planning and forecasting activities relevant to locomotive procurement, modernization and acquisition.

• Manage the procurement team in sourcing, evaluation, negotiation, and performance measurement.

• Monitor supplier performance and manage key relationships and escalations.

• Implement best-in-class contract and compliance management practices.

• Develop and present business cases to gain executive commitment.

• Support talent development and execution of talent management plans.

• Promote sustainable procurement practices, including contractor safety, supply chain risk and Indigenous procurement.

• Contribute to CN's innovation strategy, including the development of the "locomotive of the future," including new technology development.

Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The incumbent is also eligible to participate in CN's flexible work policy. The role requires being available on call to respond to operational emergencies. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress. The position requires minimal travel (10%) within Canada and the United States.

Requirements

Experience

• Minimum 7 years in strategic procurement and supply chain operations or mechanical experience
• Experience negotiating complex, high-value contracts
• Experience in railroad operations or the locomotives industry (asset)

Education/Certification/Designation

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Finance, Accounting, Law, or equivalent
• Master's degree in business administration (MBA)
Any designation for these above would be considered an asset

Technical Skills/Knowledge

• Knowledge of category management, contracting, and pricing models
• Understanding of CN's procurement policies and procedures
• Knowledge of rules and regulatory compliance
• Knowledge of Total Cost of Ownership and Net Present Value concepts
• Knowledge of basic commercial aspects of product and service categories
• Strong contracts and legal acumen
• Knowledge of contractual vehicles such as NDAs, Early Start Letters, Master Purchase and/or Service Agreements
• Knowledge of rail transportation and the logistics industry
• Knowledge of the mechanical in rail
