Hiring Salary Range : $ 102,000.00 - 134,000.00
This range represents the hiring range. Salaries are determined individually depending on skills and experience. You will also be eligible to an annual bonus, employee share investment program (ESIP), Pension, Benefits, Railroad Retirement Benefits (RRB) and other perks.

Job Summary
The Manager Signal Design is responsible for overseeing Signal Design activities for a given region and leading a group of Senior Design Engineers, Signal Engineers, and Designers who are in charge of modifying existing or designing new signal circuits for railway Centralized Traffic Control (CTC) and highway-railway grade crossing warning systems. The incumbent provides technical support to Quality Assurance, Installation, and Maintenance functions within the railway. The incumbent ensures design standards are followed and is responsible for the overall design service provided to the region.
Main Responsibilities
Management
• Lead the Signal Design team who modifies or creates new signal systems and ensure all standards are met and system design verification and validation activities are properly completed
• Ensure work meets CN, Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), Transport Canada and American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) standards and is documented accordingly
• Provide technical assistance to Construction, Maintenance and Quality Assurance (QA) teams
• Lead the Design team members and Contractor and recommend appropriate corrective actions to resolve performance issues
• Facilitate onboarding of Engineers and Designers
Project Design
• Perform the role of primary design contact for the region for project scope's definition and delivery scheduling including leading and controlling project budgets and quality
• Perform the role of principal design checker for in-house and contractor circuit design
• Develop overall design concepts for projects and monitor progress of Signal Design contractors
• Ensure on-site presence during system commissioning activities
Technical Support, Research and Development
• Provide technical support to design, install and maintain wayside signal and crossing warning systems functions within the railway
• Participate in the development of new design standards and design plan baseline for existing or new signal systems made available to the railway industry
• Act as a technical resource for other department personnel in the area of Signal Design for Installation and Construction functions within the railway
Working Conditions
The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday with intermittent periods of overtime. The role is partially performed outdoors in various types of weather and environmental conditions and requires being available on-call 24/7 to respond to critical incidences. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and manage stress. The role requires occasional travel (25%).

Experience
Signal Design
• Minimum 7 years of Signal Design experience
o Experience designing and testing signal circuits for CTC, interlocking and highway-railway grade cross warning system locations, estimating for signal design projects
o Experience scheduling and supervising design teams
o Experience reviewing design projects to ensure they meet government regulations, AREMA and CN's Signals and Communications standards
o Experience programming logic controllers using Boolean or Ladder logic
Education/Certification/Designation
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer, Electrical, Electronic, Systems Engineering or Engineering Technology

• Knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint
• Knowledge of computer-aided drafting software (CAD) and Bentley MicroStation CONNECT Edition
• Knowledge of Microsoft Project or equivalent
• Ability to present findings at industry events
