Job Summary
The Expert, Data Analysis is responsible for conducting detailed analysis and providing access to advanced analytics solutions to solve business problems, while leveraging statistical and optimization techniques. The role handles and governs large quantities of data from multiple data sources, including the ability to merge it and ensure its consistency. Moreover, the role encompasses the development and creation of visualization and analysis tools to be used by internal stakeholders. It involves seeking out and understanding new data sources, merging it with other sources, and modelling in order to provide a consumable format for analysis and presentation at an executive level. The incumbent contributes to enabling automation and supports better and faster data-driven decisions in virtually every aspect of its business.

Main Responsibilities
Data Management & Analytics
• Find and interpret rich data sources, merge and ensure consistency of datasets
• Handle large amounts of data despite hardware, software, and bandwidth constraints
• Query large datasets and link related factors to reveal performance, safety or cost-saving opportunities
• Analyze data, spot trends, and bring change to the organization
• Develop initiatives to assist the Financial Planning team in leveraging data to draw causal relationships between financial information and operating KPIs in the respective functions (Transportation, Engineering, Mechanical, etc.)
• Assist in understanding sensitivities, impacts of change, and draw insights on action items that can positively impact operations while being cognizant of ripple effects on other areas of the business.
• Use data science techniques to find data patterns, anomalies, and optimization opportunities
• Interpret, translate, and communicate analytical findings to business stakeholders
• Tackle and solve complex analytical problems using quantitative approaches
Data reporting and visualisation
• Create visualizations to aid in understanding data and build mathematical models
• Provide analytical support by creating and sharing regular and ad hoc reports as required in a format that can be easily consumed and interpreted by internal customers
• Develop and optimize Tableau and Power BI reports and applications to deliver simplified analytics to support insight development
Center of Expertise
• Stay abreast of market best practices
• Autonomously identify the best approach, process, and tools for the function
• Educate internal stakeholders on data visualization
Working Conditions
The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The role is eligible to participate in CN's flexible work policy. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress.
Requirements
Experience
Relational Databases and Modeling
• Minimum 10 years overall work experience
• Minimum 5-7 years experience in a technical expert role, with relational databases and modeling techniques and coding (e.g., Structured Query Language (SQL) Server)
• Experience developing dashboards and interactive analytical tools and visualizations
• Experience handling various types of data (unstructured, semi-structured and structured)
• Experience handling projects, (e.i.: scope and timeline), delivering results with an Agile approach
Education/Certification/Designation
• Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Computer Sciences, Software Engineering, Statistics or equivalent degree and experience
