Job Summary

The Engineer, Transportation is responsible for providing transportation engineering technical analyses and broad support to the Transportation and Operations functions related to line and terminal projects and programs. Moreover, the position develops conceptual plans and operates rationales to improve efficiency of train marshalling, tracks facilities through application of various computer tools, as well as statistical, and economic analyses.

Main Responsibilities

Network Transportation Planning

• Undertake broad engineering planning and analytical analysis assignments involving technical aspects of line and terminal operations
• Organize and perform capacity studies of railroad facilities

Operations Analysis

• Support and initiate technical analysis of operating problems within Transportation to recommend solutions
• Share responsibility with other team members as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), system support and liaison in capacity planning and general transportation engineering areas

Capital Planning

• Develop conceptual infrastructure plans, detailed layout designs, train schedules, and operating rationale for improved track facilities and train services
• Provide input for capital budget and business case development related to line and terminal improvements and various Transportation capital projects

Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress.

Requirements

Experience

Engineering
• Minimum 2 years of experience performing engineering analysis and modeling, or Engineer in Training (EIT)
o Experience in operations

Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset

Education/Certification/Designation

• Professional Engineer Designation (P.Eng.) or eligible to be registered
• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Transportation, Civil, Operational Research or equivalent

Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset

Technical Skills/Knowledge

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and programming languages such as Python, C#, and Java
• Knowledge of statistical analysis methods, and reporting tools, such as Tableau
• Knowledge of field operations and understanding of CN's operations, rules, regulations, and physical plant
