Job Summary

The Assistant Regional Chief - Track is responsible for providing reliable and safe engineering track infrastructure to maximize network availability and train velocity to support operations. The incumbent delivers improved efficiency in the designated region.

Main Responsibilities

Organic Growth

• Oversee track maintenance and track services
• Reduce train delays and provide safe plant to operate on
• Drive completion of capital projects on time and on budget to create additional capacity and maintain existing infrastructure
• Implement sustained systems and processes to ensure a proactive approach to problem solving
• Ensure prompt response to engineering-related outages to minimize downtime and include reducing work block overruns on an annual basis

Safety

• Develop a top of the class safe environment for injuries and accidents across the territory
• Eliminate Serious Injury Fatality (SIF) potential injuries
• Reduce and eliminate track unit collisions and Main Track Authority Violations (MTAV)
• Drive compliance to regulations and the Engineering Tracks Standards (ETS)

Cost Efficiencies

• Effective labor management and carrying out capital projects to ensure improved productivity
• Oversee yearly operating and capital budgets as well as drive efficiencies to improve performance

Technology, Automation, and Analytics

• Use data and analytics to monitor track condition and ensure capital as well as maintenance programs are carried out in priority order to improve reliability and maintain a safe operation
• Leverage innovation to achieve business objectives

Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office and field environment. The role will be partially performed outdoors (33%) in various types of weather and environmental conditions. The role requires being available on-call 24/7 to respond to critical incidents. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress. The role requires frequent travel (50%) within the territory.

Requirements

Experience

Relevant Work Experience
• Minimum 10 years of relevant work experience
o Experience in overseeing a vast territory
o Demonstrate sustained performance through different seasonal cycles
o Experience in managing large capital projects successfully
o Experience in communicating change
o Experience in testing for safety compliance and managing safety action plans
o Exposure to other operating functions and various territories
Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset

Education/Certification/Designation

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
Any skills/attributes for these above would be considered as an asset
